Therapeutic and delicious stinging nettle latte with a hint of natural sweetener to complement the robust flavor.
Stinging nettle is perhaps my favorite herb that I’ve relied on for decades to boost my health as needed.
Water infused with nettle is a tonic that is helpful for all times of a woman’s life.
Not only is nettle supportive for easy conception, but it also reduces pregnancy swelling, aches, and pains. It is an effective boost for lactation challenges as well.
Once the children are grown, nettle continues to provide assistance for a smooth transition into the peri and post menopause years.
If sipping in the evening, I enjoy the taste of nettles prepared as a medicinal herbal infusion.
For the morning, the pleasantly grassy flavor is quite delightful as a morning latte!
Below is my recipe for a quick cup to enjoy on cool mornings to get your day going without the crutch of caffeine.
Stinging Nettle Latte
Therapeutic and delicious nettle latte with a hint of natural sweetener to complement the robust flavor of this ancient energizing herb.
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp nettle tea or three nontoxic teabags
- 1/2 cup filtered water
- 1/2 cup whole milk preferably grassfed
- 1/2 Tbsp date syrup or maple syrup
Instructions
-
Bring filtered water to a boil preferably in a tea kettle instead of the microwave.
-
Pour 1/2 cup hot filtered water into a large coffee mug and add the loose nettle tea tea. Stir, cover with a small plate and let steep for 10 minutes.
-
If using loose tea, strain out nettle into a fresh coffee mug after the steeping time is complete. *You can use a tea infuser to skip this step, but I find the nettle tea concentrates better stirred directly into the hot water.
-
While the tea is steeping, pour whole milk into a small saucepan and turn on medium heat. Hint: If using raw milk, heat only to 117 °F/47 °C to preserve probiotics and enzymes (use a candy thermometer).
-
When milk is heated to desired temperature, pour into the mug with the nettle tea concentrate.
-
Stir in whole date or maple syrup and enjoy!
