If that addictive Starbucks vanilla latte habit is burning a hole in your wallet and your health, I’ve got a tasty and nourishing alternative for you to try!
My homemade vanilla latte is caffeine-free and sweetened with fruit (pure date syrup).
It is crazy delish, and I think you will love it!
Healthy Vanilla Latte. Is it Possible? Y-E-S
This healthy vanilla latte contains only 8 grams of added sugar (as fruit!) per serving. A Starbucks vanilla latte (tall) contains more than three times as much (as gut destroying GMO sugar ?)
If you order a grande, there are more than four times as much added sugar!
Not to mention the 150 mg of caffeine (YIKES .. that is a lot), the toxic additives in the vanilla syrup, the unnecessary waste of that environmental disaster known as the disposable cup, and the hard-earned money you could be spending on something much healthier …. like organic veggies or grass-fed meats!
So if your goal this year is to step it down from an expensive, health robbing Starbucks habit, give this vanilla latte recipe a go!
Bonus: No special equipment is needed. All you need is a small pot to heat the milk of your choice on the stovetop.
I also recommend investing in a top-quality, insulated, reusable coffee mug with a lid that you can take with you in the car and to work that will keep your vanilla latte hot to the very last drop! It will last for years. You will easily pay for it in less than a week by ditching Starbucks!
Homemade Vanilla Latte Recipe
Try this healthy recipe for a homemade vanilla latte, the perfect substitute for those high (GMO) sugar, additive loaded commercial versions such as Starbucks.
Ingredients
- 2 tsp Dandy Blend herbal coffee alternative
- 6 ounces hot filtered water
- 6 ounces whole milk preferably grassfed
- 2 tsp date syrup
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp fresh ground cinnamon optional
Instructions
-
Pour milk into a small pan and turn on high heat.
-
Add Dandy Blend powder (healthy, herbal coffee alternative) to a large mug. Mix thoroughly with hot water.
-
Stir date syrup or another healthy sweetener of your choice into the mug.
-
When the milk is frothing, immediately pour into the mug and stir briefly to mix.
-
Sprinkle on optional freshly ground cinnamon and enjoy!
Recipe Notes
Substitute a healthy milk alternative for the dairy milk if you prefer. I do not recommend non-dairy milks from the store packaged in cartons because the packaging is toxic (lined with plastic ... liquids poured in at boiling hot temperature) and the synthetic vitamin fortification.
Note that the dandelion in the Dandy Blend is detoxifying and very very healthy ... but you may experience detox symptoms at first. So go slow!

I have been drinking Dandy Tea for years, but I do prepare it somewhat like a Bulletproof coffee. I use either 1/2 T. grass-fed butter or Ghee and a scoop of collagen powder. I froth it with the butter only first and then add the collagen and gently froth. I do follow-up with a protein breakfast and some fruit.

I just now added both h. collagen and gelatin (from perfect supplements) to the Dandy. Makes it creamier!

Hi,
I gave up coffee several yrs. ago due to adrenal stress, and about 3 yrs. ago, discovered the Dandy Blend. I don’t drink it everyday, but enjoy it (black) with a buckwheat cake or egg breakfast. I don’t buy from Amazon, but just discovered when checking it there, someone realized it does NOT have organic on it now. I looked at my current box and nowhere is the word organic. 🙁 Disappointing. I will try the Latte, as it sounds good. Have never been to a Starbuck’s.
I didn’t know if you realized this or not. The box also reads that it’s from Poland, which I hadn’t noticed before.

There is organic on the label of the Dandy Blend I linked to … look again. It’s on the top of the bag. That said, Dandy Blend does also offer a less expensive nonorganic, nonGMO version too.

The Dandy Blend contains sugar beetroot. Do you know if it is non gmo?
Sarah Pope MGA
Yes, the sugar beet is nonGMO in Dandy Blend. I actually linked to their organic Dandy Blend too which is not only nonGMO, but also grown without pesticides and herbicides.
Fran
Yes! Dandy Blend is a staple in my kitchen, for a couple of years now. I get mine from Amazon too. It is such a comfort drink! Thank you for this new way to enjoy it. I can’t wait.

Hi Sara,
Thank you for this recipe! I was wondering if the Dandy blend is pregnancy safe?
Thank you!
Sarah Pope MGA
Dandelion is generally considered to be a safe herb during pregnancy .. just use in moderation as it is a diuretic.
Rebekah Cliff
Dandelion is safe but dandy blend has Chicory Root which is an abortifacient/emmenagogue that drops progesterone and causes menstrual bleeding. Processed health foods have chicory root as a common ingredient because it is full of nutrients and also controls insulin spikes from sugar. But it has hormonal side effects in pregnant women. 🙁
I nearly had a miscarriage because of this. Bled, progesterone plummeting, almost lost the pregnancy.
Herbs are not just healthy veggies. They are traditional potent medicines, and should be used with respect and caution.

Is it ok to boil raw milk?
Sarah Pope MGA
You lose the enzymes and probiotics, but yes you can boil raw milk. You can keep it to a lower temp (under 118F) and maintain the rawness for the latte if you like. I like to get the milk nice and frothy for my lattes. Note that it is much less damaging to raw milk to slowly come to a boil on your stove than pasteurization which occurs in a matter of a second.

I just made this yesterday morning (doubled the recipe) for the first time and I love it! You aren’t kidding about the detox from the dandelion though. I guess I needed a good cleaning out. Tomorrow I will stick with the 12 oz. haha

OMG, Sarah I love you! This is exactly what I need to finally, once and for all get off Starbucks and Panera lattes. I tried it the other day and it was amazing! I used coconut sugar b/c I didn’t have date syrup and I used more than you suggested, but it is a good start! I will wean myself down to the 2 tsp soon, but for now, I am thrilled to be making it myself 🙂
