My family spent a few days away this past weekend. We stayed at the Innisbrook Resort in Tarpon Springs, FL, a fabulous golf resort with many outdoor activities available for the whole family. Our family has stayed at this resort a number of times over the years and my children especially love the giant Loch Ness pool with its “monster” slides.
You can imagine my disappointment when we arrived and the weather forecast called for record breaking cold and hard freeze warnings the entire weekend. Â Only members of the Polar Bear Club would not have been deterred.
Sadly, it seemed the kids would not be able to enjoy their favorite swimming pool during our entire stay.

My goodness, Candace! I guess THAT’S a good way to really shock your system; maybe it keeps one’s immune system alert, or something!
All I know is that when it’s about 42 degrees outside during swim practice (midwinter here in Florida), that 76-79 degree pool actually feels kinda warm after marching across the windy pool deck in nothing but a little bathing suit; besides, you warm up mighty fast once you’ve done a few 100’s butterfly!

Maybe me and my relatives weren't so crazy after all! It is a Finnish winter tradition to stoke up the sauna (properly pronounced sow-na) to about 190 degrees, get nice and hot, and then jump through a hole that you have previously chopped in the ice! If you have no water near by, a good roll in the snow would suffice. I can't tell you the number of times we did this growing up, and I still live to tell about it!
