The lunch police have struck again. First, there was the story of a preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School in North Carolina who was given a highly processed, cafeteria lunch containing pink slime chicken nuggets because the school decided that the turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice her mother packed was not nutritious enough.
Now comes the story of an elementary school boy from Newport Beach, California who was suspended from school this week for the kombucha in his lunchbox that school administration said violated the school district’s drug and alcohol policy.
The boy’s mother contacted me 2 days ago the very afternoon her son was suspended in a plea to help her resolve the situation.
The trouble apparently started because the kombucha drink was packed in a glass bottle which is the appropriate container for this healthy, vitamin and probiotic filled beverage. The mother even took care to safely place the glass bottle in a foam sleeve as I’ve demonstrated in my videos which is exactly what I do for my own children so that if the bottle is dropped, it would not break and cause harm. It is important to note that the mother had sent kombucha to school in her son’s lunch many times before with no problem.
When the lunch police noticed the glass bottle safely tucked into the foam sleeve in the child’s lunchbox, they confiscated it. The next morning, the boy was called into the Vice Principal’s office and interrogated about the drink and where he got it. The school even called in the Police Officer assigned to work with all the schools in the area.
The Police Officer told the boy that the kombucha was illegal and very dangerous if he takes any medications – antibiotics or anything. Then, the officer asked the boy point blank if he takes any medicines.
Most outrageously, the Vice Principal told the boy that he may have to transfer out of that school and that she was looking into it. She even tried to enroll him in an alcoholics class for teens! The boy ended up spending the entire day in the school office and then was suspended for 5 days for violating the school’s drug and alcohol policy. The issue was also reported to the Newport-Mesa School District. Lest the school or the district deny the child was suspended or try to spin the story, the boy did indeed SIGN a 5 day suspension form.
It is important to note that these events took place without the school even attempting to test the alcoholic content of the kombucha or conducting due diligence of any kind which would have revealed that kombucha is a healthy beverage similar to apple cider and clearly not the equivalent of beer or wine.
The child’s distraught mother managed to get a meeting with the school’s Vice Principal the next morning who informed her that the Principal had decided to retract the suspension and not pursue the issue further. The child was then immediately allowed to return to school.
Unfortunately, the incident had already been reported to the Newport-Mesa school district so it is possible that the parents of the boy could face additional disciplinary action if the school district decides to pursue the matter.
The worst aspect of this incident is the extreme embarrassment, emotional trauma and shame the child no doubt experienced for being called out by the lunch police and then interrogated like a criminal the next day by school administration and even a uniformed Police Officer!
When I talked to the Vice Principal on the phone yesterday, she acted as if the incident was minor and that everything had been resolved satisfactorily. What? Giving a child the third degree in the school office with a Police Officer standing by and no parent present to defend him is no minor scene!
This incident could have far reaching implications for the child’s emotional state and could even result in bullying or snide remarks from classmates for years to come!
For all you traditional cooking Moms and Dads out there who also send healthy homemade foods and drinks in your child’s lunch, it may prove worthwhile to have a discussion with your children about this story and what to do should school administration ever harass them about the contents of their lunchbox.
I will keep tabs on this story in the coming days and if the Newport-Mesa School District decides to do something ridiculous like pursue disciplinary action against this family, I will be sure to let you all know so that the phone lines can light up and public pressure exerted to restore sanity to the situation.
**Update: Following the publishing of this article, the Newport-Mesa School District issued a press release regarding this incident. Click here for the full transcript and rebuttal.

so sad,, question is,, who is the educated ones?? surely not the adults running the school!!

This is ridiculous, and wholly unacceptable. Why can’t schools just focus on … say … schooling?
Dianne
“Why can’t schools just focus on … say … schooling?” Because the very purpose of the public school system is to indoctrinate the children so they will accept the STATE as their parents (parens patriae). No one commented that this child’s parents weren’t called – the police were.
Jill
I totally agree with what you say the purpose of the public school system is–to indoctrinate children to accept the state as their parents. I JUST watched this documentary last night: http://agendadocumentary.com/ I encourage anyone reading this to watch the trailer and check out the website. We stand on the brink here at this point in history and if it doesn’t turn around quickly, it may be generations from now, with lots of heartache in between, before freedom is restored again.
Susan
@Jill- I just watched the trailer you recommended because this is a subjest I have been studying for months. Although much of the information in it is true, I was disappointed with the political slant this documentary takes because this isn’t the fault of one political party over another. My research shows me that this is something being done on both the right and left. It was, after all, Papa Bush who kick started Agenda 21.
I am in no way discrediting the film “Agenda.” i am sure that it is filled with a lot of interesting information. I just want people who are new to this subject to be aware that this goes beyond Democrat and Republican. It is all of them verses us. Period. For anyone who is new to how the government is slowly taking over our lives, I suggest investigating Agenda 21, New World Order, Bilderberg, FEMA camps, HAARP and chem-trails. Start layering the masses of information and it becomes very difficult to deny that something very scary is going on here.
My friends think I wear a tin-foil hat, but look at the Executive Orders that Obama has signed in the last few months allowing our military to arrest anyone they see as a threat (NDAA) and the one allowing the government to come onto our property and sieze our food, livestock, seed and farm equipment. A quick study of most Executive Orders and you will see that in a heartbeat every single thing we know as normal will be taken away, roads shut down and all communication systems shut off. So, I might be the goober wearing the tin foil hat, but history does repeat itself and I plan on being ready.

You are wearing a tin foil hat but at least you’ll be ready Halloween! Some of u people scare me! Lol!

You’re so right about Communist infiltration – look at the big banks; privatize the gains; socialize the losses. And you think it’s just the Dems in on this?
Think again.

Susan–as a lifelong conservative, I, too, started researching the subjects you mentioned a couple of years ago. While there is disinformation galore floating around, after a while the real stuff takes on a sort of shine and the astute observer can differentiate the wheat from the chaff.
Shortly after “waking up”, I pulled my kid from his public middle school to educate him at home. The more I learn the more relieved I am for having taken this step; as a matter of fact, I find it astonishing that more parents haven’t made the same rescue mission on behalf of their children. Do I ever second-guess myself? Sure–I was raised within the system and was as brain-washed as any; it takes time to deprogram. However, even if my child learns NOTHING under my tutelage, he will be better off than he would be if he stayed in school. Of that I am convinced.
Thanks for your thoughtful post. I have lost friends due to my “awakening” (and I never did trumpet my findings, only tested the waters in hopes of discussing); count your blessings that you have tolerant friends! Being awake can be lonely, though the tides are slowly shifting.
Susan
Susan2- I think it is really, really awesome that you pulled your child from public school. Good for you! I know its hard, but don’t ever doubt yourself! You are absolutely, without a doubt, teaching your child more than any public school ever could! I’m sure it must seem tough sometimes, but the best things usually are!! 🙂
I have to wonder when friends reject us for thinking and believing as we do, if they will be the first ones to knock on our doors when the SHTF. Yeah, I may be a kook for saving food and water and doing other things to prepare, but I figure at worst I am well prepared for an earthquake if need be. What’s the harm in that? And if things become worse than that, I’m ready for that, too.
You are correct that the tide is slowly starting to change, but so many people simply will not ever buy into this concept. Good little sheeple. In the meantime, you can come on over to my house and we can compare our prep lists. Just be sure to bring your tin foil hat!!
Ryan
Susan, you should stop looking towards Natural News for your source of information. While the government definitely doesn’t have our best interests in mind, they aren’t plotting something ridiculously sinister as a lof of the subjects you mentioned suggest. No one is taking your pigs!!! Jesus, I swear, more and more people are turning towards tin foil hats. You’re more brainwashed for believing that rubish than believing the government is here to help us. And stop calling people sheeple, you’re a sheeple for buying into Glenn Beck and Alex Jones’ insane ideas. Next you’re going to start actually believing all the strife in the world is caused by lizard people who live in the middle of Earth who pull strings.

I agree with you I’d have that principal in front of a judge seeking damages so fast It would make their heads spin! The parents need to stand up or they’ll get away with it and continue to think it’s OK to do this to kids.

I can underr the kid. My parents went up to my school because I was placed in a school program that my parents weren’t aware of and I didn’t get breaks. My dad asked the teacher to accompany him to the principle’s office. My dad placed his hand slightly on her back and my teacher pretended to fall over then said my dad pushed her. So then I had students come up to me, asking me what my dad did. I got harassment from another student and he tried to break me. Teachers need to watch themselves. I bet they smelled the tea and since it smells like beer, they took it. Dumb.

“…and could even result in bullying or snide remarks from classmates…”
Seems logical for the classmates to bully him, the school leadership and law enforcement already has.

I wouldn’t put up with this for 30 seconds. I would also not waste my time trying to teach the unteachable. HOMESCHOOL. Period.

Wow! Just another reason to keep your kids out of the public schools.
