Dr. David Carpenter MD, a graduate of Harvard Medical School and a physician who has worked in the area of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) and public health for over 18 years, has a few choice words for power companies that are forcing smart meters down the throats of their customers all over the United States.
Dr. Carpenter adamantly insists that there is no evidence whatsoever that smart meters are in any way safe for human beings. He goes on to say that there is, in fact, ample evidence that demonstrates “convincingly and consistently” that exposure to radiofrequency radiation (RFR) at elevated levels for long periods of time increases the risk of cancer, damages the nervous system, and adversely affects the reproductive organs.
Dr. Carpenter says that an informed person should demand that they be allowed to keep their analog meter.
The two minute video interview with Dr. Carpenter below is well worth watching.
If you are having smart meters forced upon you where you live, know that California power customers have recently won the battle to keep their analog meters. There is both an annual and monthly charge for this “inconvenience” to the power utilities, but at least customers now have a choice to opt out where they did not before.
This precedent for opting out in California should make it easier for others with smart meters who don’t want them in other areas of the United States to be able to get their analog meters back as well.
While smart meters reduce workload and increase profitability for the power companies, they do so at the expense of the health of their customers. Opting out is the only “smart” way to deal with this corporate incursion.

Here is what one prominent industry expert who is also a medical doctor has to say about smart meters. Don’t wait until you have a health problem likely caused or exacerbated by these devices. Be proactive to protect your family!
Note that this does not necessarily include the very similar looking AMR devices.
Can’t Get Rid of Your Smart Meter Right Now?
If you live in a rental property or cannot afford to pay the extortion fee charged by utility companies to remove your smart meter and reinstall an analog, I would recommend getting a device called a Smart Meter Guard (check it out here).
It has been proven to cut 98% of the radiation from a smart meter! Better yet, the power company won’t balk if you use it as long as you don’t break the security seal (don’t EVER do this!). My friend Beth from Minnesota emailed me about it recently as she was informed about this new device by a building biologist who works for the company Intentional Environment.
There are now two other less expensive competitive products, the Smart Meter Cover (available here) and the Smart Meter Shield (available here).
Having one of these smart meter safety devices installed at your home is a must.

After reading this, I called my electric company (PPL) and asked about it. The customer service rep said we’ve had smart meters for 8 years and there’s no opt out (yet). It is really, really discouraging to find out that we have no choice in the matter. Even more so when she said “We (PPL) own the meters”!!! They can put whatever they want on my house if I want public electricity.

This is unbelievable! Thank you so much for posting on this issue! My husband and I were careful to choose the lowest radiation cell phones available, but I had no idea there was a device emitting 100 X the RF of a high RF cell phone on the side of my home! We just went out and checked and sure enough we have a smart meter! If you see me on the news in a few weeks it is because I bought and used this kit http://freedomtaker.com/ . The kit to replace your meter is $50 + shipping. If you scroll down, you will see that they also sell the legal letter (for you to send to the power company) included in the kit, separately for $10. Perhaps this would allow you to strong-arm your power company into changing it for you, and you could avoid purchasing the whole kit.

Yes, a smart meter is like having a cell phone tower attached to your house. Not good.

I have been on a crusade to lessen my family’s exposure to EMFs for the past few months due to my having developed a “new and exciting” cardiac arrhythmia about two years ago, and EMF being suspected to elicit arrhythmia episodes in EMF-sensitive individuals and also in individuals who already have arrhythmias. I had a separate, much less annoying, arrhythmia since age four. The new one, despite having been partially ablated via heart surgery last April, affects me much more than the one I have had since I was a child. I know for a fact that all of the previous homes I inhabited had analog meters, because I remember all of the little dials! Wouldn’t it be something if living in this nice, new house, with its “smart meter” was all it took to throw my system over the edge in terms of EMF exposure? Thanks again Sarah! Guess I will be buying that Earthing sheet now;-)

Another thing scary about smart meters, is that apparently they are at risk of exploding (or at the very least malfunctioning and sparking)! I was already aware of the dangers of the radiation emitted, but this makes me even more certain I don’t want one installed at my house! That, and my power board is on the wall outside my bedroom, and not more than a few metres from my daughter’s bedroom.

I did a bit more Googling and it seems that there have been several incidents of smart meters exploding in other parts of the world. Scary stuff. These things should be avoided like the plague!! I will certainly have words to say if they want to come install one around here (initially it was planned for 2010/2011 but something was held up…fortunately…at the time I knew less to nothing about the risks and dangers).

Funny how that information was not updated to include the fact that the World Health Organization now has listed emissions from smart meters as a possible human carcinogen..
Anybody concerned about the issue would be better off getting information from an impartial medical source that does not make money from installing smart meters-

The above is a link to a letter sent by the American Association of Environmental Medicine to the California Public Utilities commission in January, about why smart meters should be banned.

Actually, it is the American Academy of Environmental Medicine. The letter explains that he information relied on by the FCC is obsolete.

Lately in the news there has been a lot of talk about radio frequency (RF) exposure in regards to smart meters. I am sure a lot of you have read about the problems out in California and other regions where people are calling for the meters to be taken out and the issues many utilities are having to deal with as a result of this pushback. The reality is that a lot of this public backlash is based on misconceptions and mismanaged public relations.
To help clarify and better inform the public, our employees and our customers, Marketing and the Product Management team has compiled references from leading organizations such as UTC, FCC and the World Health Organization that show there is no evidence that smart meter RF has any health effects to human beings.
These references are online and the link to the Sensus site, “Understanding RF and Smart Meters”, is located at: .

Just called the city – we all have smart meters. They are sending me information from their manufacturer that has research on why they are safe….. i’ll send it on to you once i get it. I told the lady i spoke with that i would send her my information (your blog post) and she was very happy to get it. We’ll see what happens!!

I just called the electric company here and they said we have an ERT or radio transmission meter. It was just installed last year, but is not a smart meter, according to them. It enables them to drive by to get a reading rather than get out and check the meter. I’m thankful if that’s right, as there’s nothing “smart” about a smart meter.

This is the opt out CA info. Just not right that we’d have to pay extra every month. It isn’t in my budget. 🙁 Thats in addition to the $75 removal fee.
