Dr. David Carpenter MD, a graduate of Harvard Medical School and a physician who has worked in the area of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) and public health for over 18 years, has a few choice words for power companies that are forcing smart meters down the throats of their customers all over the United States.
Dr. Carpenter adamantly insists that there is no evidence whatsoever that smart meters are in any way safe for human beings. Â He goes on to say that there is, in fact, ample evidence that demonstrates “convincingly and consistently” that exposure to radiofrequency radiation (RFR) at elevated levels for long periods of time increases the risk of cancer, damages the nervous system, and adversely affects the reproductive organs.
Dr. Carpenter says that an informed person should demand that they be allowed to keep their analog meter.
The two minute video interview with Dr. Carpenter below is well worth watching. Â
If you are having smart meters forced upon you where you live, know that California power customers have recently won the battle to keep their analog meters. Â There is both an annual and monthly charge for this “inconvenience” to the power utilities, but at least customers now have a choice to opt out where they did not before.
This precedent for opting out in California should make it easier for others with smart meters who don’t want them in other areas of the United States to be able to get their analog meters back as well.
While smart meters reduce workload and increase profitability for the power companies, they do so at the expense of the health of their customers. Â Opting out is the only “smart” way to deal with this corporate incursion.
Smart Meter Dangers – Video
Here is what one prominent industry expert who is also a medical doctor has to say about smart meters. Don’t wait until you have a health problem likely caused or exacerbated by these devices. Be proactive to protect your family!
Note that this does not necessarily include the very similar looking AMR devices.
Can’t Get Rid of Your Smart Meter Right Now?
If you live in a rental property or cannot afford to pay the extortion fee charged by utility companies to remove your smart meter and reinstall an analog, I would recommend getting a device called a Smart Meter Guard (check it out here).
It has been proven to cut 98% of the radiation from a smart meter! Better yet, the power company won’t balk if you use it as long as you don’t break the security seal (don’t EVER do this!). My friend Beth from Minnesota emailed me about it recently as she was informed about this new device by a building biologist who works for the company Intentional Environment.
There are now two other less expensive competitive products, the Smart Meter Cover (available here) and the Smart Meter Shield (available here).
Having one of these smart meter safety devices installed at your home is a must.

My sister in California had a Smart Meter installed without even knowing it. Now the power company says that while she could have opted out prior to the installation, there is no way to have it removed now.
Does anyone have any good links/resources I can share with her to help her get it off?

Why don’t you smart people do your homework. You have a RF device stuck to your ear? In your wireless internet. Wireless blue-tooth on your PC in you home, in your car, I bet even Harvard has wireless connections. All emit RF why are you bitching at the power companies. Wonder if it is because not they can cut your ass off when you don’t pay your bill. Or put you on pre pay so you have to pay for your electricity in advance, just like you do for fuel for your vehicle, or groceries, or smart phone data plans. Not all smart meters emit RF’s. Many are power line carriers. The signal comes over the power line. No more dangerous than Ethernet cables. Good grief get a grip people.

The electric company decided to come into my yard which has a 6foot privacy fence with a gate and a sign that says beware of dog because I have 2 large dogs. I keep my dogs inside when I’m not home because it’s already hot here in Fl so I guess they jumped my fence. I am outraged!! I wonder if they will switch it back.

Great piece. Hoping these don’t start coming en vogue in Canada any time soon.
As a totally unrelated aside, whenever I see your mini logo among the tabs atop my window, I think it’s the Ghostbusters logo. Ya, that’s right, I’m refined like that.

We were notified recently that they would be switching our meters as well. I just called and told them I wanted to opt out of doing that. They were totally fine with that, but there is a $10 charge per month, per meter…ouch! We have 3 meters…well worth the health of our family!!!! Thanks for posting this!

We opted out of the smart meter early on. Guess what, our utility company sent us a letter a week or so ago. They will charge us $75 to re-install our meter plus charge us $10 a month. If we get a smart meter…which of course will need to be installed, there is No Charge. I’m hoping a class action suit is in the works.

Sarah,
We’ve had one for 6 years now! I had no idea they were bad until I read your blog. Thanks alot! 🙂 Please don’t leave us with the bad news. What do we do if we have them? Do you know, is there anything we can do to protect our home and our family? What about those pendants you wear around your neck that are supposed to offer some protection? Do you have any knowledge if those are a hoax or not? Thanks.

Just found our power company has been installing them since April 2010, but according to the map our area isn’t due until March. So I have a bit of time… I’m going to check this weekend if I already have it – hopefully not. I printed out the flyer in one of the first links in the comments and left it in our company’s break room. Hopefully it will help someone!!

Turns out I already had one!! Not sure how long… the website says they started in April 2010 or 2011 so maybe not that long… I simply emailed them about how to get the regular meter back and then a man showed up the very next day (lucky I was home) and replaced it. We’ll see if I get charged or not… I told my nanny about it. She was amazed that they installed one without my consent. Now it’s gone!!

I live in a Sparks, NV Apartment complex & don’t know if this will be the corporate owners’ decision or my decision as to whether or not NVEnergy installs/doesnt install the “Smart Meter”.
Alot that’s called Smart today, isn’t!
