Five safe, non-toxic remedies to consider for relief from bladder infections (UTIs) and which to choose based on the specific symptoms experienced.
How common is this scenario? The agony of a bladder infection, also called a urinary tract infection (UTI), with its urgency, pain and uncomfortable sensations hits you suddenly without warning. The doctor predictably responds with a prescription for an antibiotic even if you are pregnant!
Is there really no other option?!
Instead of waiting rooms, co-pays and condescending glances, keep the following list of bladder infection remedies handy and choose the one that best matches the totality of your symptoms.
For lack of space, I’ve included only a few bladder infection remedies from which to choose, because they’re the most common. If you don’t get good results, then contact your homeopath who has other bladder infection remedies that might more closely suit you.
Meanwhile, you’re likely to cure yourself without the mallet of drugs that damage your gut and perhaps even your longterm health.
Once you’ve chosen the correct bladder infection remedy based on symptoms that are presenting, use it in the 30th potency every 3-4 hours. If symptoms are severe, the selected remedy may be given every 1-3 hours. Stop when there’s significant improvement. This may take up to 4 doses.
If there’s no change, then consider the next best choice. In either case, once you make your choice, stay with it until it proves incorrect.
Home Bladder Infection Remedies
Cantharis 30: This is the remedy for those who have a strong sense of urgency. Yet, very little is voided upon reaching the bathroom. The sufferer may be compelled to rush to the toilet and may even lose urine on the way.
Sometimes there’s a sense of frenzied desperation that accompanies the infection and the pain may make this symptom worse. Burning pain is also a strong indication for Cantharis and increased sexual interest may be noted.
Berberis 30: When there are burning pains in the urethra which are made better with urination, try this remedy. During urination, there may be pain in the loins and thighs. The urine may have thick mucus or have bright red, mealy sediment; it may also be pale yellow. After urination, there is the feeling that urine remains.
The kidneys might feel sore, bubbling, and burning, while a cutting and burning pain is felt in the bladder. There may also be sticking and violent pains which travel from the kidneys into the bladder and urethra.
Sarsaparilla 30: A bladder infection requiring Sarsaparilla involves pain that is most concentrated at the end of urination. The urine flows in dribbles and sometimes the woman is unable to completely void her bladder unless standing. This remedy is useful for when the pain is burning, but pain may not be the most pressing symptom.
Pulsatilla 30: This is the remedy of choice if the girl leaks urine while coughing, laughing, or sneezing. She’s often a soft, round, and feminine-type who gets weepy when she gets these infections. Nausea and other gastrointestinal issues may also be present, particularly from eating ice cream or other rich, creamy foods. Urination may smart, but it’s nowhere near as painful as the picture presented by the other remedies.
Emotionally Rooted UTI Relief
Staphysagria 30: This remedy has a reputation for aiding women who suffer UTIs after being abused, either physically or emotionally, or after a recent embarrassment. Sometimes there’s a sense of shame that accompanies the symptoms.
So common is Staphysagria in this malady that it ought to be considered if no other remedy seems to fit the “picture” of the symptoms. It’s also the most common choice for infections that arise after sexual activity.
When you first start learning about homeopathy, selecting the correct remedy for yourself or a family member can seem tricky. Homeopathy is person-specific, rather than illness-specific so it requires thoughtfulness and analysis.
But don’t give up. These bladder infection remedies really work!
Once you’ve experienced the thrill of bringing real resolution to an illness, it’s a feeling of accomplishment that you’ll want to experience again.
‘Cause you did it yourself!

As I have a kidney transplant, I don’t play with UTIs when I have them, especially as they seemed to get progressively more agressive over the years and got into my kidney the day after I felt the first symptoms. However, I started taking probiotics – biokult with 14 strains of bacteria and biokult pro-cyan which is especially geared towards UTI. As long as I take them fairly regularly, I don’t get them at all now.

I’ve used D-mannose. It works great.

Can you or anyone tell me if this works on third day of your uti symptoms? My symptoms started yesterday morning. I ordered it but I won’t receive it until tomorrow evening. Does it work 3 days later? Thanks!

Please do not mess with uti’s. They can cause serious lastng damage. They can quickly travel to your kidney, infecting the kidney. If the infection goes septic your kidney stops working. I’m all about natural remedies, but I think uti’s warrant anTibiotics. Uti’s can kill and they can kill fast. (From the mother of a 4yr old with about 26 percent total kidney function).

How did your kidneys get limited, if you don’t mind me asking? I have a nasty condition called Interstitial Cystitis, which causes me severe pain & great grief. It mimics uti’s, but also causes you to be susceptible to utis. I also have many things wrong with my digestive tract, including limited flora as an effect from having to take so many antibiotics over the years; which in turn causes me even more problems b/c of constipation. If I can get around from taking antibiotics, that’s a great plus for me. Thank you, Terry

Terry, my daughter has IC and I know what you are going through! After 2 years of antibiotics on a regular basis we switched to a Functional Medicine doctor. She has my daughter on a strict regimine of D-Mannose, Probiotics specific for UT system, cranberry pills, B Complex and lots of water. They are becoming less frequent, but when she does get them and they are confirmed by the lab, she does put her on an antibiotic. You cannot mess around with them. Good luck to you 🙂

D-Mannose hands down. Even our pediatric urologist is behind D-Mannose! We asked about it after our youngest boy had had a UTI that 3 different rounds (and a reaction to one of them) and he gave us several pages of information from the Children’s Hospital computer system. The D-Mannose cleared it in just a couple of days. We keep it on hand and of all things, use it in the wet food of the cat that has issues with urine crystals. It helps him too!

Years and years ago, my sweet young son was so afraid to use the boys’ restroom at school because of the stories he had heard about what happens in there, that, without mentioning anything to me, he resorted to not drinking any liquids until he got home in the afternoon. Soon, he began having bladder infections ALL THE TIME! Before he told me the restroom stories I did research and found that marshmallow root tea was the remedy for bladder infections. I made a pot, stirred in a little honey (otherwise it is quite bland), and in the morning he was fine. When I tried to push the liquids before school in the morning he finally told me about the school restroom stories. I told the school and they began monitoring, but also arranged for him to come to the office to use the restroom. Oh the stresses our youngsters experience. At the first sign of such an infection, a pot of this tea works great. If you wait until you are so miserable you can’t go out it public, it’s not so effective.

Raw apple cider vinegar and not being lazy with my diet have cleaned up three UTI’s for me. Baking soda relieves any pain you may have, but I don’t think that will cure it.

Chronic UTI can be a sign of otherwise silent ovarian cancer. Living proof here. Heed the warning, get it checked.

Baking soda works! It has also worked for my husband’s gout …. and I stay away from cranberries. Tried the Pure Tart cherry juice too but it didn’t work either. Baking soda worked within an hour. 1/2 teaspoon in water 3x a day until symptoms are gone. Now I drink it once a day for preventative
