This morning I was interviewed on the Sustainable Living Radio Show on 88.5AM WMNF here in Tampa, Florida.
I was thrilled to be a part of this show along with Kristin Canty, director and co-producer of the critically acclaimed documentary, Farmageddon, The Unseen War on American Family Farms. Â
Farmageddon is also the currently featured cover of Creative Loafing, a popular news and recreation newspaper in Tampa Bay.
I’ve been working for the past few weeks with the most amazing leaders in the Local Food Movement here in the Tampa Bay area to bring this film to town.
This collaboration has resulted in a can’t miss community event featuring two sold-out Farmageddon shows along with a trio of organic restaurants and local food vendors on the billing this Thursday afternoon and evening to feed and educate an interested community of folks about the burgeoning Local Food Movement in this area.
This event is even more relevant given the sobering events at Rawesome Foods this past week in Los Angeles where yet another SWAT team raided and stomped all over the local food rights of those members who buy food at this private, non-retail establishment.
Many thanks to the venue, the Roosevelt 2.0 as well as 88.5AM WMNF for sponsoring this important educational event for the Tampa Bay community!

Hi there, I read your new stuff on a regular basis. Your humoristic style is witty, keep doing what you’re doing!

As much as disagree with how the government brought in the SWAT team and disposed of all that food, I felt like there had to be a reason why the did what they did.
I don’t want something like this putting us behind on our journey of food awareness.

Thanks for answering that. Well, I guess at this point we hope for a judges rule in our favor. Because if we get that, wouldn’t that mean greater amounts of raw food freedom in our future than we have now? I hope they have some incredible lawyers (and a favorable judge too). Maybe someone should give “Your Honor” a glass of raw milk to help them understand just how great it is!!

Hi Drea, Rawesome Foods is a non-retail private club and as such is not required to have the same licenses as those farms that sell to the public and have their product on store shelves.

I am curious a bit more on what the reason was behind the Rawesome raid? I think the action the gov. took was extreme and unnecessary, but all the news reports are saying that raw milk is legal, but Rawesome wasn’t following the rules to sell it. I know the farmer we get raw milk from jumps through a lot of hoops to sell hers legally. It wouldn’t be fair for her to follow all the rules, but for another farmer to find ways around them. Shouldn’t Rawesome have to follow all the same rules the rest of CA farmers have to follow to sell their products? I agree to fight to change the rules so they aren’t so cumbersome though.

Thanks! It was so much fun doing that interview with Kristin. She is such a class act and promoting her movie to my local community is so very exciting!
