The compelling article written by Dr. Judene Smith DDS about minimally invasive dentistry and how it ignores strong scientific evidence about how cavities heal really brought out the drill-happy dentists in droves! It seems they are unaware of the study published in 2019 in the peer-reviewed journal Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology that demonstrated over a 7 year period that no drill dentistry works.
As anecdotal evidence to the emerging scientific consensus on the matter, I am presenting a series of photographs sent to me by Rami Nagel, author of the paradigm-shattering book Cure Tooth Decay.
*Another photographed case of resolving cavities is found in this article more pictures of remineralizing caries.
The photos are of an 18-month-old child from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Rikki, the boy’s mother, took these photos as her son’s cavities remineralized over a period of 8 weeks after commencing a dietary program that included supplementing with unprocessed cod liver oil and high vitamin butter oil.  It is important to note that regular cod liver oil found in health food stores will not produce the same spectacular results you see in these photos. Why? These are processed and fortified with synthetic vitamins that are not effective.
The sad truth is that when a parent brings in a child with significant tooth decay, toxic, IQ lowering fluoride treatments, drilling/filling or even crowns and root canals are recommended on baby teeth!  These treatments which can be incredibly expensive are not necessary as in a majority of cases, children’s teeth will quickly remineralize with dietary intervention. Adult teeth with cavities will heal in a similar fashion as long as they have never been drilled or compromised by dental treatments in the past.
What Did This Child Eat That Caused These Cavities?
Possibly the most shocking thing about this story is that this toddler was not eating a junk food diet when these cavities formed. Â He was still breastfeeding and eating an all-organic diet. His favorite foods consisted of graham crackers and flaxseed bread. Â He also was fond of organic granola bars which he ate regularly.
The problem with store-bought whole grain products is that they are high in antinutrients like phytic acid that block mineral absorption. These foods are not a good choice for regular consumption by growing children.
Rikki’s son also ate fruits and vegetables and organic eggs although his mother avoided butter and milk thinking they were bad for him. After reading Cure Tooth Decay, she realized that butter and milk from grass-fed cows are very healing and strengthening for teeth and bones. Grass-fed dairy also counteracts some (but not all) of the negative effects of the toxins and anti-nutrients in processed grain products from the store.
Foods That Healed this Child’s Teeth
Rikki implemented 4 major changes to her son’s diet in order to achieve the results you see below.
- She cut out grains and sugars. This reduced the mineral depletion from the commercial grains and sugar.
- She started giving him Green Pasture’s Royal Blend (a combination product of high vitamin cod liver oil and butter oil) which gave her son the needed fat-soluble vitamins to remineralize his teeth.
- Her son now gets unpasteurized dairy regularly including real raw milk cheese and fermented vegetables like pickles.
- Their family uses butter liberally, and Rikki makes homemade broth and soups from pasture-raised chicken.
Unfortunately, the earliest picture is of the teeth after 1 week on the new dietary protocol described in Cure Tooth Decay.  There wasn’t a control picture available of what the cavities looked like before any changes were made. Even still, the visual healing that takes place is compelling and should give every parent hope that cavity problems can be dealt with at home with simple dietary changes in the majority of cases.
Will these dietary interventions be easy? Most definitely not if a conventional diet is being followed. For those already eating a whole foods-based diet in their home, the changes are much easier to accomplish. Far and away the most difficult change to implement for cavity-prone children especially if they attend school is eliminating processed grain-based foods.

I have just been reading up on other sites about this too. I believe the body is capable of healing itself in most cases when given proper nourishment. Dentist may not agree because they only know what they have been taught. I am curious if any of them ever tried this method on a volunteer.

Anyone wanting to improve their dental health really has to try using a Waterpik. I can’t stress enough just how great they are. They are very powerful and are now considered even superior to flossing! Mine has a 600ml reservoir that I fill with warm Celtic salt water. It blasts the teeth and gums clean and massages them in the process. It has a massage mode too though. I wish I got one years ago.

I was wondering if the same remedies applied to a tooth with nerve damage? I have been wearing invisilign and it put too much pressure on one of my front tooth and it became very sensitive. It is now less sensitive but it is changing color, it is turning light grey. I stared taking fermented cold liver oil and eating kimchi, I am also taking hypericum (homeopathy). I do not want to get a root canal or to lose my tooth. Any tips would be really appreciated! Thanks! Alex

I’m a Vietnam veteran and was affected by Agent Orange (aka dioxin – a pesticide and herbicide) which impaired my immune system, and many other problems. On top of the weakened immune system the VA hospital gave me Fosamax which caused bone loss, which resulted in jaw problems and loose teeth. Of course they never admit when they add to our existing problems. Anyway, one Friday night I had a terrible tooth ache and knowing I would have to wait until a Monday to call a dentist, I searched the internet for a cavity cure and read that a father cured his daughters cavity using cod liver oil. Well, I ran out and purchased a bottle of Finest Cod Liver Oil. In three day of usage, the pain went away, and a year later still no pain.
Because of the damage done by the Agent Orange and Fosamax, I will still have to have all my teeth removed. The VA will not cover dentures unless I have 100% disability, and being a senior citizen, Medicare will only cover x-rays and cleaning and won’t cover dentures. My reason for writing is to say that Dr. Judene Smith DDS, is probably the only dentist that will be honest about a cure for cavities. Two thumbs up for her,
Ele
What do you recommend for existing cavities? My son has cavities eating away at his front teeth and I am concerned that they won’t heal with the natural remedies before they fall out from the decay.

If the cavities are bad enough you will have to get them filled especially if they don’t show immediate improvement from dietary intervention. For many children today, unfortunately the gut function is compromised and they aren’t absorbing nutrients from their food very well (overuse of antibiotics is a big reason why).

My teeth where like that. Based only on the photographs it’s NOT a cavity (though these photographs where small edited, over exposed, and enlarged), this child has it very mild stains, maybe caused from gum problems. I’ve gotten the option of many dentist as I have had this. You should always get a second option before your positive of something. There are various ways to decrees the damage. Some will whiten (and mine is no longer visible after whitening treatments). If it’s something more aggressive they may want to drill, a crown or veneer may be needed… It’s still not what any of the dentist I met consider a cavity, and for it to be that aggressive on a child, but genetics and food mean a lot in health…. Even a child with genetic problems though CAN have great teeth with good health, a good bruising routine, and maybe eventually braces. That means watching kids brush rather than just telling them to do so, and also making sure they floss, and rinse. I am a parent with a cavity free teeth. But if you don’t watch your kids brush they don’t always want to do it. I have reversed worse damage then the child photographed with whitening so this seems like a more natural healing approach to that. But a more natural approach would be better suited especially for a child. Nutrition is always a factor in teeth though and calcium is very important for dental health, and getting healthy fat is important for young children.

In regards to Amanda’s opinion I’d like to counter and say: Believe me that’s a cavity. One of our children has teeth like this and the dentist marked them all as cavities. She eats a rather healthy diet, almost vegetarian, hard to get her to eat meat. She likes lettuce as a snack! It’s why I’m here reading a helpful article about healing cavities. The dentist referred a pedo dentist and pulpotomy – I can’t even fathom letting them “put her under” so they can do dental work on baby teeth. She is petite and I fear she would never wake up again! Thank you Sarah for the articles and all the work that goes into this site!!

Any alternatives to raw dairy? It’s illegal to buy or sell here.

You should NEVER have pain in a root canaled tooth!! The POINT of a RTC is to remove the nerve after decay has reached it and it causes a toothache. No nerve = no pain.

Is the Green Pasture Blue Ice Royal Butter Oil/ Fermented Cod Liver Oil Blend ok to use to heal cavities?
And is the gel better than the capsules? I think I have a cavity and I want to try this solution, but didn’t know if I had to buy them separately. Thank you!
