The compelling article written by Dr. Judene Smith DDS about minimally invasive dentistry and how it ignores strong scientific evidence about how cavities heal really brought out the drill-happy dentists in droves! It seems they are unaware of the study published in 2019 in the peer-reviewed journal Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology that demonstrated over a 7 year period that no drill dentistry works.
As anecdotal evidence to the emerging scientific consensus on the matter, I am presenting a series of photographs sent to me by Rami Nagel, author of the paradigm-shattering book Cure Tooth Decay.
*Another photographed case of resolving cavities is found in this article more pictures of remineralizing caries.
The photos are of an 18-month-old child from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Rikki, the boy’s mother, took these photos as her son’s cavities remineralized over a period of 8 weeks after commencing a dietary program that included supplementing with unprocessed cod liver oil and high vitamin butter oil.  It is important to note that regular cod liver oil found in health food stores will not produce the same spectacular results you see in these photos. Why? These are processed and fortified with synthetic vitamins that are not effective.
The sad truth is that when a parent brings in a child with significant tooth decay, toxic, IQ lowering fluoride treatments, drilling/filling or even crowns and root canals are recommended on baby teeth!  These treatments which can be incredibly expensive are not necessary as in a majority of cases, children’s teeth will quickly remineralize with dietary intervention. Adult teeth with cavities will heal in a similar fashion as long as they have never been drilled or compromised by dental treatments in the past.
What Did This Child Eat That Caused These Cavities?
Possibly the most shocking thing about this story is that this toddler was not eating a junk food diet when these cavities formed. Â He was still breastfeeding and eating an all-organic diet. His favorite foods consisted of graham crackers and flaxseed bread. Â He also was fond of organic granola bars which he ate regularly.
The problem with store-bought whole grain products is that they are high in antinutrients like phytic acid that block mineral absorption. These foods are not a good choice for regular consumption by growing children.
Rikki’s son also ate fruits and vegetables and organic eggs although his mother avoided butter and milk thinking they were bad for him. After reading Cure Tooth Decay, she realized that butter and milk from grass-fed cows are very healing and strengthening for teeth and bones. Grass-fed dairy also counteracts some (but not all) of the negative effects of the toxins and anti-nutrients in processed grain products from the store.
Foods That Healed this Child’s Teeth
Rikki implemented 4 major changes to her son’s diet in order to achieve the results you see below.
- She cut out grains and sugars. This reduced the mineral depletion from the commercial grains and sugar.
- She started giving him Green Pasture’s Royal Blend (a combination product of high vitamin cod liver oil and butter oil) which gave her son the needed fat-soluble vitamins to remineralize his teeth.
- Her son now gets unpasteurized dairy regularly including real raw milk cheese and fermented vegetables like pickles.
- Their family uses butter liberally, and Rikki makes homemade broth and soups from pasture-raised chicken.
Unfortunately, the earliest picture is of the teeth after 1 week on the new dietary protocol described in Cure Tooth Decay.  There wasn’t a control picture available of what the cavities looked like before any changes were made. Even still, the visual healing that takes place is compelling and should give every parent hope that cavity problems can be dealt with at home with simple dietary changes in the majority of cases.
Will these dietary interventions be easy? Most definitely not if a conventional diet is being followed. For those already eating a whole foods-based diet in their home, the changes are much easier to accomplish. Far and away the most difficult change to implement for cavity-prone children especially if they attend school is eliminating processed grain-based foods.

The ADA and the dental profession would prefer no one knows that cavities heal. The Dental Industry would rather keep everyone IN THE DARK about this HEALING. It may even be true that they are ignorant of this, because their business is drill, fill, bill ….. so perhaps their text books do not mention the possibility of a cavity healing. Follow the MONEY $$$$$ is the reason.

To the dental profession, enamel remineralization is nothing new. Depending on the depth of the demineralized area, you can brush/floss/use xylitol/ MI Paste and/or ICON-DMG/ change dietary habits&limit snacking/drink water instead of sodas, etc. Cavity formation is a fairly slow process and demineralization is simply a fist step so with small lesions, dentists have the luxury of informing patient, educating them&giving them 6-12months to implement changes& then following up to see if there is any improvement or lesion has gotten larger. However, this only works with intact enamel surface&lesions not involving dentin. For example, in the photo you can see the tooth to the right having white chalky appearance right next to the gumline. That is deminerilized enamel.
All bets are off once the cavity has formed and passed the point of no return. To tell a person with a large cavity to go home and swish with coconut oil would be equally negligent as telling a person with a gunshot wound to put Neosporin on it.
Personally, I find it funny that it’s easier to get an 18month old child to take fermented cod liver oil than it is to just brush after breastfeeding.

My husband had a black cavity that fell out and filled in. The enamal was gone, now it’s back.

Breastfeeding works like raw milk, in the sense that it is healing for teeth. So why would you recommend brushing after breastfeeding? The article clearly states that the cavity was due to a high grain consumption of the child. Also, during breastfeeding the nippple will reach the back of the throat, making almost all the milk go straight down to the throat.
ToothFairy
Breast milk (while being impressively packed with nutrients, minerals, vitamins, Mom’s antibodies etc) is still just milk: mostly water with some fat, sugar (called lactose)&little bit of protein dissolved in it. Bacteria in baby’s mouth break down lactose into glucose and then into lactic acid. Let s say you just had a glass of milk: how does your mouth taste 30min later? Sour? That would be lactic acid.
As far as grains ….sure, starch is broken down to glucose in the mouth. However, you would see cavities on back teeth (where most of chewing of solid food takes place) and not solely on front surface of front teeth. Location suggests pooling of the milk. Now, we can say baby is actively sucking (milk bypassing teeth), but they also may be dozing off and some of the milk will stay in the mouth. No Mom can guarantee there is no milk in the baby’s mouth after breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is highly beneficial to both Mom and baby but perhaps Mom can just give baby a sip of water (or caffeine-free chamomile tea) afterwards and/or wipe the front teeth with moist gauze/ use a small rubbery toothbrush that fits onto your finger and clean the teeth.

You really need to go to the Weston A. Price foundation website so that you can learn something useful about raw milk http:www.westonaprice.org. Also, a little dryer but quite informative is NIH article on raw milk: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2039733/
Compared to homogenized and pasteurized milk, raw milk is a nutritional powerhouse.

My son has a very big cavity on one of the lower back teeth. 2 months or more ago I started giving him homeopathics 3 times a day. I can see where the tooth has remineralized. Is the cavity all gone? No. But, I do not feel like I have to take him in to get it filled because the inflammation is gone and there is no more decaying and it is slowly getting smaller. I am trying to not be an over excited mother and exaggerate, so I am being very cautious about it all, but I can honestly see a difference in the color of the tooth where the tooth stops and the remineralization starts. My son eats sugar, bread, takes his FCLO sporadically and even misses once in a while in taking the homeopathics. I believe teeth can remineralize…..

O.K. Sarah…. I watched your video and read some more of the materials presented on this topic…. I will agree that caries is uncommon in traditional diets because simple sugars prevalent in processed food and modern diets contribute to more acidic plaque and more decay. BUT.. the pictures in this article ARE BOGUS… and the PROOF is right in the photo. There is early decay on the tooth to the right…. and it is completely unchanged in all the photo’s… how is it that the treatment caused such a profound effect on tooth D with NO EFFECT on tooth E?

Jeff Simpson it’s not that simple. It can’t be. My daughter brushes once a day MAYBE, her younger brother gets his teeth (he has cavities in the front 4) 4 times a day, low sugar diet, and lots of other dietary interventions. Yet his cavities are still progressing, although very slowly. I feel that a bad fall/ injury to the teeth is related, yet you say that it’s only bacteria.

Wish it were always this simple of a solution :/

I’m not seeing that much of a change here. Someone want to chime on what they are seeing?

It’s true. Cavities heal with good nutrition. My neighbor and her children had terrible dental problems until they implemented the Cure Tooth Decay protocol. Her kids had cavities begin to fill in and discoloration from enamel breakdown reverse. My husband asked an elderly, retired dentist he knows about it and he told him that, yes, indeed, he too has seen it happen and that in his day he actually learned about tooth decay reversal in dental school! It used to be common knowledge, but sadly, the truth doesn’t make a lot of money for the dental industry.
