The compelling article written by Dr. Judene Smith DDS about minimally invasive dentistry and how it ignores strong scientific evidence about how cavities heal really brought out the drill-happy dentists in droves! It seems they are unaware of the study published in 2019 in the peer-reviewed journal Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology that demonstrated over a 7 year period that no drill dentistry works.
As anecdotal evidence to the emerging scientific consensus on the matter, I am presenting a series of photographs sent to me by Rami Nagel, author of the paradigm-shattering book Cure Tooth Decay.
*Another photographed case of resolving cavities is found in this article more pictures of remineralizing caries.
The photos are of an 18-month-old child from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Rikki, the boy’s mother, took these photos as her son’s cavities remineralized over a period of 8 weeks after commencing a dietary program that included supplementing with unprocessed cod liver oil and high vitamin butter oil.  It is important to note that regular cod liver oil found in health food stores will not produce the same spectacular results you see in these photos. Why? These are processed and fortified with synthetic vitamins that are not effective.
The sad truth is that when a parent brings in a child with significant tooth decay, toxic, IQ lowering fluoride treatments, drilling/filling or even crowns and root canals are recommended on baby teeth!  These treatments which can be incredibly expensive are not necessary as in a majority of cases, children’s teeth will quickly remineralize with dietary intervention. Adult teeth with cavities will heal in a similar fashion as long as they have never been drilled or compromised by dental treatments in the past.
What Did This Child Eat That Caused These Cavities?
Possibly the most shocking thing about this story is that this toddler was not eating a junk food diet when these cavities formed. Â He was still breastfeeding and eating an all-organic diet. His favorite foods consisted of graham crackers and flaxseed bread. Â He also was fond of organic granola bars which he ate regularly.
The problem with store-bought whole grain products is that they are high in antinutrients like phytic acid that block mineral absorption. These foods are not a good choice for regular consumption by growing children.
Rikki’s son also ate fruits and vegetables and organic eggs although his mother avoided butter and milk thinking they were bad for him. After reading Cure Tooth Decay, she realized that butter and milk from grass-fed cows are very healing and strengthening for teeth and bones. Grass-fed dairy also counteracts some (but not all) of the negative effects of the toxins and anti-nutrients in processed grain products from the store.
Foods That Healed this Child’s Teeth
Rikki implemented 4 major changes to her son’s diet in order to achieve the results you see below.
- She cut out grains and sugars. This reduced the mineral depletion from the commercial grains and sugar.
- She started giving him Green Pasture’s Royal Blend (a combination product of high vitamin cod liver oil and butter oil) which gave her son the needed fat-soluble vitamins to remineralize his teeth.
- Her son now gets unpasteurized dairy regularly including real raw milk cheese and fermented vegetables like pickles.
- Their family uses butter liberally, and Rikki makes homemade broth and soups from pasture-raised chicken.
Unfortunately, the earliest picture is of the teeth after 1 week on the new dietary protocol described in Cure Tooth Decay.  There wasn’t a control picture available of what the cavities looked like before any changes were made. Even still, the visual healing that takes place is compelling and should give every parent hope that cavity problems can be dealt with at home with simple dietary changes in the majority of cases.
Will these dietary interventions be easy? Most definitely not if a conventional diet is being followed. For those already eating a whole foods-based diet in their home, the changes are much easier to accomplish. Far and away the most difficult change to implement for cavity-prone children especially if they attend school is eliminating processed grain-based foods.

What should you do if you can’t get raw milk? Any substitutes?
Anne
Okay, according to my dentist, I have a very minute sized cavity growing on the outside of my right molar tooth. I’ve never had cavities before and this was very alarming to me when I learned this.
So I’m implementing a plan to try and heal this cavity before if pierces all the way through the enamel. by using Fermented Cod Liver Oil and Butter Oil Blend, Oil pulling with Coconut oil, and brushing my teeth with a glycerin and fluoride free tooth paste known as Earthpaste, and my diet already already doesn’t consume grains and I NEVER eat processed sugars from foods or drinks, but I can’t get my hands on raw milk in my state, since it’s illegal for human consumption, so I guess I have to stick with diet that consumes pasteurized milk and other grassfed meats. Do you think I can see results within 3 weeks of this and are there any improvements to this plan you’d like to suggest?

This was the other main supplement that Dr. Price and the Drs. Mellanby found was extremely supportive of dental healing. In the study they did, cavities healed even when diet wasn’t changed if Vitamin D was optimized and the best healing occurred when diet was optimized and Vitamin D was added. ~ Wellness Mama
Sarah TheHealthyHomeEconomist
No, the diet was changed. And, there weren’t any GMOs and chemicals or gut destroying antibiotics in the picture yet either.
Al
I agree with you 110%, it’s just saying that the best results came when both were optimized but to say healing didn’t occur at all especially for small cavities is a lot to assume.

Bio-dent from Standard Process, 18 a day, will replace the calcium need.

Earthpaste I believe has some naturally occurring toxic stuff. I will have to look it up again but if it’s the one with mud from Salt Lake area I would be cautious and read up on the dangers of it.

I have a cavity in one of my upper teeth and I want to try oil pulling to help it heal. I have been getting ‘stress cavities’ ever since I started college. I have to wait for the oil to arrive though, and am afraid the tooth will get worse while I wait and possibly be damaged further before the oil has a chance to work. What can I do to start healing my tooth in the meantime with limited access to holistic ingredients ?
Lia
Can you remineralize your teeth after getting a filling by removing the filling and following this particular diet?
Sarah TheHealthyHomeEconomist
No, absolutely not. Once a tooth has been drilled, it cannot be healed with diet.
Lia
Will taking the fermented cod liver oil and butter oil blend along with pasteurized milk yield the same results? Along with minimizing grains and sugars?
Sarah TheHealthyHomeEconomist
No.
Lia
I was reading the story about the mother who healed her child’s cavity just by making her son eat FCLO/BO blend along with his normal diet and a little change to his breakfast and that cavity healed. Is it not suffice to say that FCLO/BO blend promotes calcium and phosphorus uptake from any food, despite them not being products such as raw milk but pasteurized milk or even decent vegetables.
Sarah TheHealthyHomeEconomist
That Mom would be me (that story is on this blog) and my son was never consuming pasteurized dairy and his diet was traditional already … eating a conventional American diet with pasteurized milk and expecting the fermented cod liver oil and butter oil to heal the cavity when the rest of the diet is subpar is expecting too much.

In her book, Cancer Winner, Jacquie Davison’s fillings popped out and her cavities filled in while she was on the Gerson diet for cancer. Hers is a wonderful testimonial as to what can be accomplished when nutrition is optimized.

I never knew remineralizing really works. My cavity was worse when I got it to the dentist, Dr. Gupta, Mount Royal Dental Clinic in Burlington, and I had no option other than to pull it. Cavities to what level can be fixed using remineralizing?

If people will go out and look at the research done by Dr Weston Price they will see there is no secret “formula”. At the time he did his research the available nutrients that were common were Cod Liver Oil, and pastured dairy… Today these are not common. If you go out and price the cod liver oil and the butter products they recommend they are very expensive… Let me clue you in on a little secret. The X Factor as Dr Price called it is vitamin K, it is the missing secret ingredient…. You want to do this on a budget then go get some vitamin A(just get a good multivitamin), vitamin K(recommend K2), and vitamin D3. You get those and you will get the same results without the “exotic” butter oil and cod liver supplements that are mentioned here.
The idea it to make this accessible to normal every day people. If you have a family and everyone is taking these products it can get expensive. So do some searching and you will find what I say is true. Remineralize your bones, clean out your arteries, remineralize your teeth… Too many benefits to list if you dig into it.
Vitamin A, Vitamin K, Vitamin D
Thats your secret formula… Check it out… And of course follow the other recommendations in getting rid of grains and carbs… They strip your body of minerals and much much more.
Erin
As I’m on a budget, I can’t afford the fermented cod liver and butter oil. Instead, I’ve been taking D3, a Super K2 complex supplement (has K1, MK-4 and MK-7) and regular Norwegian cod liver oil. I’ve also been consuming grass-fed cow milk/yogurt, bone broth and raw milk cheese along with eggs, veggies, etc.
You think that would work just as well as the high-priced FCLO/BO combo?

Hello,
i heard that Gouda cheese has the highest K2.
+ it tastes good.
so may work better for those who are lactose intolerance. (i like Beemster Vlaaskas best so yummy)

I’ve been remineralizing small cavities in my wisdom teeth, which are really packed in there and hard to brush properly every five years or so since they came in (in my 40s now). I didn’t know about grains, CLO or raw milk. I used raw garlic, held on the spot. It would burn the heck out of my cheek, but it also killed whatever was growing on my teeth/gums. Also used slightly chewed cloves held in the same way. Sometimes I would use an herbal tooth powder made into a pack to hold in place for a while as well. I had never had a cavity in baby or adult teeth, so perhaps I already had good tooth mineral status? After having a baby in my late 30s and doing extended breastfeeding, I got a cavity back there that I was not able to heal and had to have filled. I had many signs of mineral deficiency at that point and all of my teeth were somewhat transparent on the ends. When my body recovered, I never had another cavity and I’m fairly confident I could heal it myself again if I did. My dog unfortunately ate my Healing Tooth Decay book before I could read it. I don’t know if he advocates antibacterial substances in addition to minerals, but I think both are very important.
Amanda
I had a bunch of cavities forming on cracked teeth.(which were all cracked from when they removed my braces). After a year of taking the fermented cod oil and butter oil, and changing my diet, my dentist said it was very impressive how small the cavities got. He expected that they would eventually need drilling but now they are gone! I just wish something could be done about the cracks. Oh well. I’m gonna keep up this regimine so they don’t ever need drilling! Yay!
Kristen
will regular cod liver oil not help at all then? I don’t have access to FCLO with butter oil
Sarah TheHealthyHomeEconomist
Not as well by a longshot.

You can get FCLO at Green Pastures!~

any idea about growing back receding gum?
if teeth can heal, why not gum?
Becca Weaver
Yes, your gums can heal also. First, when brushing, be gentle. Second, you can purchase Cyruta-Plus by Standard Process from any chiropractor. Take 18/day. Things aren’t going to heal in just a few months, and you will get sick of taking them, but your gums will get better over a period of time.
Jan Gordon
I healed mine by changing from a regular toothbrush to a Phillips Sonicare toothbrush. The receding gums are usually caused from brushing too vigorously, and when you get in a hurry, it is not always easy to not transfer the tension of needing to hurry away from the brush. I avoided this with the Sonicare, because to get a proper brushing with the Sonicare, you have to place the toothbrush at an angle to your teeth toward your gums, not applying much pressure. The brush does an outstanding job on your teeth. I swear by mine If you don’t want one, then as suggested, brush slowly and gently.
