Have you ever gone for a routine dental exam and suddenly been informed that you need a dreaded root canal on a tooth that is slightly sensitive to cold and sweets?
This tooth is still vital, so why should you need to kill the tooth?
Why would a tooth suddenly die that was normal 6 months ago?
Root canals are very expensive and often painful.
Did the dentist miss something?
Maybe the filling or crown that was just placed still hurts?
It is common for dentists to suggest a root canal to remove the pain, but is that the only answer?
Root Canals on the Rise
In my over 40 years of practice, I’ve noticed that dentists are getting more aggressive in their treatment planning.
Rather than try to save teeth and keep them alive, they immediately recommend a root canal and crown.
An informed consumer should demand that the dentist carefully clean out the decay and place a medicated filling with zinc oxide and eugenol (known as an IRM) to calm the nerve.
The poor fitting crown with an open margin should be replaced.
Conservative dentistry is the best option in this situation where sensitivity or tooth pain is present. Not a root canal!
Pain in an Existing Root Canal
If you had a root canal in the past and are experiencing discomfort, you should get a 3-dimensional CBCT scan to determine if that tooth is infected.
Abscessed teeth don’t always hurt because the tooth is dead, but it may harbor a chronic infection at the end of the root that is missed on a regular, two-dimensional x-ray.
Infected teeth have been linked to other systemic illnesses and can weaken your immune system.
Dead teeth spread bacteria throughout the jawbone.
It is important to know that retreating an infected root canal tooth does not sterilize the condition.
Extraction of the root canal tooth using ozone and proper debridement of the socket by a holistic surgeon is needed in this situation. Your own Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) stem cells can be used to graft the tooth socket. This signals the body to make more bone.
PRF comes from the plasma portion of the patient’s own blood. It is important NOT to use pig or cow bone.
Replacement of the missing tooth can be done without metal implants, which have been known to corrode and release particles.
Ask your dentist for a Zirconia metal-free implant.
Another option is a non-invasive, low-cost Valplast, biocompatible, BPA-free partial. These replacement bridges do not require cutting other teeth and are simple cosmetic solutions.
Root Canals Are Not the Answer
It is important to take the time to get educated before committing to an irreversible surgical decision like a root canal.
If your dentist suggests a root canal, that is your cue to get a second opinion. Book an appointment with a holistic dentist who can address the situation conservatively and solve the problem without risking your health long-term.
If you already have a root canal and have any sort of autoimmune disease, it would be worth considering getting it removed properly by a holistic dentist as soon as possible. Root canals are a source of 24/7 infection that makes it very difficult to resolve other seemingly unrelated health problems.

I have a front tooth that had a small cavity on the back. I didn’t get it fixed because the dentist said I have to go to someone three times that is going to clean roots and sedate me. I’m. It for being sedated so I didn’t go. I think roots shouldn’t be messed around with so didn’t have the cavity done. Now it chipped and a hunk fell off the back of the front tooth. It needs attention now but I’m checking for an alternative dentist. What options are there for this. I’m trying to figure what they are for f to do. Some point to a cap. Or root canal but that is not for me. Some say veneers but this is the back of the tooth. I’m worrying if I get it pulled out what do they do for a bridge. And an implant. Do you have to be sedated to have one out in?

Root canal treatment is adopted by a lot of people but it can be painful to handle. Having a good and effective alternative can be wonderful. Thanks a lot! After reading this, a lot of people will find good tips and better dental health.

Thoughts on root canal needed due to injury, NOT due to decay or infection? Facing one needing done on my front tooth. Cosmetically, I don’t think implant is the best option for me.

DON’T DO IT. My husband had two teeth knocked out in a car wreck as a child and those root canals single handedly destroyed his health … we unwound it all 20 years ago after we were married. Had them removed, detoxed, healed the gut etc. Root canals are the quickest way to destroy your health. Get a safe implant! It’s worth the money. https://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/dental-implants/

I had three bottom front root canal treated teeth removed, and had a bridge put in.

You talk about the expense of a root canal. What about the expense of an extraction, bone graft, implant placement, and implant-supported crown?
Sarah Pope MGA
Root canal is cheaper out of the gate, but you get what you pay for. Think about the total cost of a root canal in terms of how it destroys your health over a few years, with the development of autoimmunity problems that cost thousands of dollars in medical care and pharmaceuticals to treat. The cost of root canal alternatives is quite cheap when you think of it this way.

I recently had a lower front tooth extracted because of an abscess that persisted. The day before the extraction, I saw my orthodontist to have the wire removed that was behind my lower teeth. My plan was to get a flipper/partial for regular use instead of an implant, but the orthodontist had another suggestion: save the pulled tooth and he would remove the root end, apply some composite, and then glue/wire it into place. That was done just last week and it’s working well for me. Plus, he only charged me about $100!

I live in the Philadelphia area. Anyone have an idea of a biological dentist that would not be too far away? Is the IABDM a safe place to search?

how do i find a holistic dentist in my area?
S
How would I find a replica of this particular dentist with the exact same advice and methods of practice in my city? He sounds perfect.
Rebecca
Where to find a holistic dentist? That is the question.

I recommend Drs. Nunnally or Freeman in Marble Falls, TX. I’m in Dallas and I drove down to have my root canals extracted because they use PRP, ozone, IV vitamin C, and they clean out cavitations properly. They are an integrative, biological dental practice and were interviewed in the documentary Root Cause. People come from all over the world to their practice for treatment. One lady who was there at the same time as me lived in Hawaii. The things I wish everyone had told me before the entire process are: 1. It will be about a year long process from when you have your root canals extracted to when you get crowns on your implants. 2. Your bone has to heal for about 3 months after tooth extraction, then you can get an implant. 3. Once the implant is placed, it’s another 3 months or so for the bone to grow around it, then you’re finally ready to get a crown. 4. The cost of the implant does NOT include the cost of the crown!

I would be interested in your thoughts on a front tooth that had a root canal. Pulling it isn’t as easy to work with as a rear tooth that would be ok if it was missing.
Dianna
I had to have a front tooth pulled that had a root canal and was chronically infected. I was given a partial/flipper (sort of like a retainer with a tooth attached. I wore it until the bone grew in and then had an implant placed. Expensive but the only option unless you like missing a front tooth.
