When I wrote the post about how to heal a cavity, I had no idea that the post would end up being circulated around dental forums where it became the target of ridicule and even anger from a number disbelieving dentists. The fact is that teeth can and do heal, even those in need of a root canal.
Whether or not conventional dentists choose to acknowledge it does not really matter. Holistic dentists know the truth! For example, Dr. Weston A. Price DDS documented many cases of cavities resolving when nutritional deficiencies were corrected in his book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration.
While I received many negative emails and comments from dentists (I also received a few positive emails from dentists, I might add), I was also delighted and amazed by stories from Moms just like me who had experiences very similar to my own…tooth problems resolving with nutrition or natural medicine alone!
One of the most interesting emails I received was from a homeopath named Kay, who lives in Australia, coincidentally right near where my husband was raised! Kay wrote me the following story which I thought so fascinating that it absolutely needed to be a guest post:
Homeopathy Instead of a Root Canal
Dear Sarah,
My sister who lives in Hong Kong sent me the link to your site after you wrote an article about butter oil and how it reversed tooth decay when taken along with cod liver oil.
I am a homeopath and teach workshops to parents on how to use natural medicine to raise healthy children, so I was fascinated by this piece of information and it prompted me to share another tooth story with you and your readers about how my son was saved from a root canal at the age of 14 years old by using natural medicine.
Jack had been playing golf with his brother over the school holidays and while hot tired and emotional ( a normal state of affairs for my son at the time), his golf club got stuck in the bag. So, with sheer brute force, he ripped it out of the bag straight into his mouth and broke off the bottom of his front tooth!
We went straight to the dentist who did tests and declared the root was dying and that he needed to do a root canal before the tooth discolored. I told him to remove his drill from my son’s mouth and said I would try and save the tooth with homeopathy. A not very happy dentist told me there was a time and place for homeopathy and this wasn’t it and if there was any remote chance I could save this tooth he would send me all his clients.
I took Jack home and gave him homeopathic Arnica for shock, trauma and bruising. Then, I used homeopathic hypericum, a great remedy every parent should know about as it repairs nerve damage. I gave it to Jack every few hours and then reduced it to 2 x day for the next week. In America I believe you can buy homeopathics in health food stores quite easily, so always have arnica and hypericum in your cupboard for “teeth” accidents.
Today Jack still has his original front tooth with a little cosmetic dentistry to build up the bottom half and the dentist still has not sent me one client!
Thanks for letting me share this story Sarah. Just knowing these small pieces of information can create such better health outcomes for our children and families.

I went to the dentist.???? and he hurt my nerve in my tooth it now affects my faces.
Hi Dr. My son met with an accident few weeks back and now his front tooth is becoming dark. Very similar to the case another dentist shared with u. Unfortunately when he first met with the accident, I gave him arnica like twice and since he stopped crying I stopped the medicine. But now after 2 weeks it’s dark. Can I now give him arnica and hypericum? Do u think it will help now. I have visited the dentist and they suggested root canal as usual. My son is jus 3 so root canal is out of questions. Pls advise.
I can not find any information in regards to the strength of arnica & hypericum homeopathic remedies to use.
Also, isn’t there foods and essential oils to avoid when using homeopathy?
A month ago I had an infection from a partially erupted wisdom tooth. My face swelled and I started taking antibiotics, which helped. Later a tooth next to it started to hurt. I got this wisdom tooth extracted, a month ago, yet the pain in the adjacent tooth is still there. I went to a dentist and endodonist, and they couldnt find anything wrong with the tooth even with the x-rays. I’ve no idea what to do.. I dont have a cavity at all. And yet I have this constant and relatively dull tooth pain. Could something be wrong with its nerve that wasn’t detected on the x-ray, or could it be a fractured tooth and yet I can’t see it? Can I save this tooth without having root canal?
I have a crown on a front upper tooth. I have just visited a dentist who exrayed my tooth because there was a blood blister on the gum above the tooth. He has told me the tooth is dead and there is infection that won’t heal because there is no blood supply. My choices are root canal filling, or extraction and false tooth. It is a front upper tooth so I am not wanting a false tooth. I certainly don’t want a root canal so wondering what other options I have. For the record I am 68 and in good health
Hi, I have a chipped tooth and the nerve is starting to twitch. I really don’t want to have to see my dentist, I have a real fear and would love to be able to heal the tooth. Please can you send me picture and/or links to where I can get these products. The pain isn’t too severe at the moment but I fear if I leave it any longer it’ll get worse.
You cannot heal a chipped tooth.
Do you feel that the only gums need to be tightened? Or is there and actual crack or fracture? If there is no fracture (u can check by having one frontal X-ray), then making the gums tighter maybe possible to save your teeth!
I did it to mine and it worked. I ate a plant-based whole food alkaline diet. All electric (non mucus forming) foods that regenerate bone and tissue! Google alkaline electric vegan foods. I went the extra mile and consumed NO salt. I have adopted this lifestyle. My diet has completely changed for the better and no more cravings for acidic foods!!!
No starches! No meats! No cheeses! NO milks! No sugars! NO breads, except for spelt tortillas, NO pasta except for kamut. NO rice except for sprouted black wild rice!

I broke off my two front permanent teeth when I was around 8 years old. Nothing was done for the teeth until I was about 17 years old when the teeth were capped for cosmetic reasons. (This was just one year before dentists started doing dental bonding — so capping was the only known option then.) Fifty years later the teeth remain healthy. I’m still trying to figure out why we’re allowed to break off teeth and the tooth survives, when if we get a little cavity, all of a sudden we need dental work to save the tooth. Then that filling needs replacing until you end up with a nub of tooth and a root canal and a jaw infection. I got jaw infections in lower mouth from root canal, not in the front area where my upper teeth broke off. I’ve reached the point I am very suspicious about dental work, especially dental cleanings that scrape away enamel (they claim they don’t but they absolutely do, even polishing the tooth removes enamel and is done to sand down the areas they scrape on the tooth — scraping is bad as teeth are strong but brittle and can develop hairline fractures). I should also mention that I’ve had gum recession. However, the gum recession magically stopped on the two teeth I wouldn’t let the hygienist clean anymore. I doubt it’s healthy to scrape around the roots of a tooth under the gum line.
Can you please send me pictures of the two items? Having a hard time locating it . Please! I really need to save my tooth. Thanks!
Can you help me. I have knocked out the top 4 teeth of mine. Can you advise me any medicine which can help the bone take the teeth again.
Sorry, nothing will help a tooth that has been knocked out. Please see a dentist!
