When I wrote the post about how to heal a cavity, I had no idea that the post would end up being circulated around dental forums where it became the target of ridicule and even anger from a number disbelieving dentists. The fact is that teeth can and do heal, even those in need of a root canal.
Whether or not conventional dentists choose to acknowledge it does not really matter. Holistic dentists know the truth! For example, Dr. Weston A. Price DDS documented many cases of cavities resolving when nutritional deficiencies were corrected in his book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration.
While I received many negative emails and comments from dentists (I also received a few positive emails from dentists, I might add), I was also delighted and amazed by stories from Moms just like me who had experiences very similar to my own…tooth problems resolving with nutrition or natural medicine alone!
One of the most interesting emails I received was from a homeopath named Kay, who lives in Australia, coincidentally right near where my husband was raised! Kay wrote me the following story which I thought so fascinating that it absolutely needed to be a guest post:
Homeopathy Instead of a Root Canal
Dear Sarah,
My sister who lives in Hong Kong sent me the link to your site after you wrote an article about butter oil and how it reversed tooth decay when taken along with cod liver oil.
I am a homeopath and teach workshops to parents on how to use natural medicine to raise healthy children, so I was fascinated by this piece of information and it prompted me to share another tooth story with you and your readers about how my son was saved from a root canal at the age of 14 years old by using natural medicine.
Jack had been playing golf with his brother over the school holidays and while hot tired and emotional ( a normal state of affairs for my son at the time), his golf club got stuck in the bag. So, with sheer brute force, he ripped it out of the bag straight into his mouth and broke off the bottom of his front tooth!
We went straight to the dentist who did tests and declared the root was dying and that he needed to do a root canal before the tooth discolored. I told him to remove his drill from my son’s mouth and said I would try and save the tooth with homeopathy. A not very happy dentist told me there was a time and place for homeopathy and this wasn’t it and if there was any remote chance I could save this tooth he would send me all his clients.
I took Jack home and gave him homeopathic Arnica for shock, trauma and bruising. Then, I used homeopathic hypericum, a great remedy every parent should know about as it repairs nerve damage. I gave it to Jack every few hours and then reduced it to 2 x day for the next week. In America I believe you can buy homeopathics in health food stores quite easily, so always have arnica and hypericum in your cupboard for “teeth” accidents.
Today Jack still has his original front tooth with a little cosmetic dentistry to build up the bottom half and the dentist still has not sent me one client!
Thanks for letting me share this story Sarah. Just knowing these small pieces of information can create such better health outcomes for our children and families.
Looking for a Holistic, Biological Dentist?

OMG!!! MEEE TOOO.. Just got back and I’m MAD! told DR i had root canals before and i have no pain with this one. He suggested root canal and I said I’m going to hold off. Of course his song and dance. I told him going on vacation and may call after words. Used scare tactic .” just because you are not in pain now does not mean on vacation you could be in Pain” I know i can kill bacteria myself!!! sooo upset!!
I’ve a dark tooth for a long time post braces but my dentist never seemed too concerned so I thought it was just discolored. I have no cavities but a week ago noticed a boil above the dark canine I went to my dentist yesterday and he wants me to take antibiotics and go to an Endodontist for a root canal. I’m waiting to hear back from a holistic dentist but I’m guessing it’s too late too save the tooth. I wish I’d known it was dying a long time ago. My dentist thinks it’s most likely from braces and them pulling my canines down.
My son, age 16, just had his front tooth knocked out 3 days ago….we saved the tooth and it is replanted and now we wait. The dentist said the 2 teeth next to the replanted tooth might be dead as he didnt feel any cold sensation. so he might need 3 root canals if all 3 teeth have no more blood supply and nerve damage. I want to ask…did your daughter have a root canal on her replanted teeth? Any other info you want to share will be highly appreciated!!!!
ME too! Same senerio, anyone with advice on how much to take and how long? Please?
Thanks for your post, gives me some hope.
How should the arnica and hypericum be applied? As a pure oil or diluted oil straight to tooth and gum? Thanks!
I had a very bad dentist who broke my tooth seven years ago. Shortly after, a different dentist placed a crown on the tooth and the tooth has been asymptomatic ever since. A few days ago, the crown fell off. I went to the dentist today. He said the crown looks fine and still fits and there is no sign of decay or infection in the tooth. However, he said the tooth is dying, likely due to trauma caused by the first dentist several years ago. The x-ray shows that the bottom 1/4 to 1/3 of the root is dead. The rest of the tooth seems fine. It is still mildly sensitive to cold without the crown on, and with the crown, there is no pain or sensitivity. The dentist decided to use temporary cement on the crown because he expects the rest of the root to die someday. He does not know if the tooth will last a week or several years, but he says he will x-ray the tooth every six months until the root dies and the tooth needs a root canal. Until then, we will continue temporarily cementing the tooth. This seems kind of silly to me. If the trauma occurred seven years ago, and the entire tooth isn’t dead yet, it seems like it could be a very long time before the rest of the tooth dies. I’m wondering if it is possible to regenerate the part of the nerve that has died already or to, at least, save the part of the root that is still living indefinitely? Once part of the root is dead, it complete tooth root death inevitable?
Hi I tried Much in homoeopathic arnica, Ledumpal, hypericum and cf for cracked tooth syndrome still I’m not releived from the pain. Is the CTS can curable by homoeopathic.
The cracked tooth may be far too damaged, so I would recommend reaching out to a holistic dentist. https://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/10-signs-your-dentist-is-truly-holistic/
I have an abscess and have been on antibiotics. The dentist wants to do a root canal or pull the tooth. Both are terrible choices. I want to heal the infection and try and save the tooth. Is this possible?
Hi Sarah,
When I was 15 years old, I was practicing martial Arts.. I suppose to jump back flip so accidently my front upper teeth hit by my knee.. It was very pain at that time due to financial problems I didn’t go to dentists after 2 to 4 years later when I was drinking cold or hot it gave me pain so when to doctor.. He did X-ray and he said root canal is only option other wise your teeth will turn black in months. But I didn’t believe and I don’t want root canal. I didn’t take any medicine yet. I just avoided cold and hot things. Now I am 35years old it’s been 5years..my teeth turned half white I can see the difference, if I press on top of the teeth I can feel the pain otherwise normally no pain.. I need to do something to cure this with out root canal.. I don’t want my teeth to be replaced or removed.. Plz suggest me natural medicine precautions, Dosage and all.. I Appreciate your help…
