When I wrote the post about how to heal a cavity, I had no idea that the post would end up being circulated around dental forums where it became the target of ridicule and even anger from a number disbelieving dentists. The fact is that teeth can and do heal, even those in need of a root canal.
Whether or not conventional dentists choose to acknowledge it does not really matter. Holistic dentists know the truth! For example, Dr. Weston A. Price DDS documented many cases of cavities resolving when nutritional deficiencies were corrected in his book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration.
While I received many negative emails and comments from dentists (I also received a few positive emails from dentists, I might add), I was also delighted and amazed by stories from Moms just like me who had experiences very similar to my own…tooth problems resolving with nutrition or natural medicine alone!
One of the most interesting emails I received was from a homeopath named Kay, who lives in Australia, coincidentally right near where my husband was raised! Kay wrote me the following story which I thought so fascinating that it absolutely needed to be a guest post:
Homeopathy Instead of a Root Canal
Dear Sarah,
My sister who lives in Hong Kong sent me the link to your site after you wrote an article about butter oil and how it reversed tooth decay when taken along with cod liver oil.
I am a homeopath and teach workshops to parents on how to use natural medicine to raise healthy children, so I was fascinated by this piece of information and it prompted me to share another tooth story with you and your readers about how my son was saved from a root canal at the age of 14 years old by using natural medicine.
Jack had been playing golf with his brother over the school holidays and while hot tired and emotional ( a normal state of affairs for my son at the time), his golf club got stuck in the bag. So, with sheer brute force, he ripped it out of the bag straight into his mouth and broke off the bottom of his front tooth!
We went straight to the dentist who did tests and declared the root was dying and that he needed to do a root canal before the tooth discolored. I told him to remove his drill from my son’s mouth and said I would try and save the tooth with homeopathy. A not very happy dentist told me there was a time and place for homeopathy and this wasn’t it and if there was any remote chance I could save this tooth he would send me all his clients.
I took Jack home and gave him homeopathic Arnica for shock, trauma and bruising. Then, I used homeopathic hypericum, a great remedy every parent should know about as it repairs nerve damage. I gave it to Jack every few hours and then reduced it to 2 x day for the next week. In America I believe you can buy homeopathics in health food stores quite easily, so always have arnica and hypericum in your cupboard for “teeth” accidents.
Today Jack still has his original front tooth with a little cosmetic dentistry to build up the bottom half and the dentist still has not sent me one client!
Thanks for letting me share this story Sarah. Just knowing these small pieces of information can create such better health outcomes for our children and families.

Where can i buy butter oil to save my infected tooth from being pulled
In desperate need of advise on what to do I had a bridge done (overseas) in late sept and I’ve suffered with severe pain since I have seen my local dentist who adjusted my bite but said if that didn’t work said it will need a root canal ( it hasn’t helped) pls let me know what I can do to try and not go down this path. thank you
Sarah Pope: You are Wonderful! I stumbled on your youtube channel a while ago and have been soaking my brown rice and beans using your method ever since. I have quite a ways to go, but my family is open to the changes.
I learned about butter healing and was able to put off filling a cavity, now I have to finish the work and make it permanent. I have no health insurance and have very little income, thank goodness the kids are adults.
Does anyone know what happened to Kay Watts’ website childrensnaturalmedicine.com.au and Twitter account
@ChildrensNaturalMedicine and facebook page facebook.com/ChildrensNaturalMedicine ?
Thanks, Terry
Hello,
I accidentally came across this article, and I see a lot of hope.
My husband had a stent procedure for a recently discovered brain aneurysm, Four months down the lane, we went to a dentist to check on tooth pain, and they prescribed antibiotics, painkillers and directed him for root canal next and tooth extraction later for a couple other teeth. I have been reading, and I found that the Root infection can lead to several diseases, and aneurysm can be one of them. Not sure if I should believe all of it. Can you please help me understand if he can save his teeth at this stage, and also prevent any other disease? He has also been diagnosed with diabetes, and currently its under control with medication, diet and moderate exercise. Please advice.
What dossage of the homeopathic hypericum do you reccomend? Any particular brand?
Very similar to several posts – two months ago a top front tooth began to hurt immensely after my son hit it while we were playing. I went to my dentist and x Ray showed a healthy tooth and nerve. Shortly after, pain went away. Two weeks ago, an abscess appeared on the gym high above the tooth. Another x Ray showed a healthy tooth and nerve. It an apparent infection pocket above the nerve. I have been put on antibiotics and informed that a root canal is absolutely necessary – my tooth and nerve are healthy – I don’t want to loose my front tooth. I was told that once the infection heals that the tooth will become painful again.
Thank you so much for sharing this information! I fainted a year ago and fell on my front teeth… Thanks to this article I immediately put arnica tablets on both teeth and was able to save one of them. They are both still alive (which is the reason why I would like to avoid a root canal) but one of them is brown/gray… Do you know something that I could do after a year that could reverse the coloring? The teeth are healthy and unbroken on the inside and outside but everytime I smile people spot the brown one immediately since it is one of my incisors teeth.
I am all about treating myself and family as naturally as possible. No other time would you ever keep a dead piece of your body intact other then a root canal. I have had six, after radiation for cancer and since had them all removed. I just had a filling replaced due to normal wear and tear, it was not very deep. Now it is painful. I have had the filling adjusted, still painful. I really want to save this tooth, my option is to pull it rather than a root canal but want to do whatever I can since this tooth is really important to my partial (not made yet) fitting correctly. Other than arnica and hypericum what should I use? I’m open to any suggestions.
Do you mind sharing what you did to take care of the bacteria? Was the problem in your tooth root? Trying to see if i can avoid root canal too. Thank you!
Two years ago I made an appointment with my dentist after experiencing severe pain. He could not see me for a week, so I took medication and waited. A week later, the pain was gone. The dentist said the tooth looked fine. He said I needed a root canal. I decided to wait untill it hurt again. It never has, after 2 years. Recently, I had a similar problem on another tooth. After a cleaning, a tooth became sensitive to cold. After a few weeks, it became much worse, requiring medication. After a week, the pain was gone and I stopped using meds. Let’s hope it does not come back.
