When I wrote the post about how to heal a cavity, I had no idea that the post would end up being circulated around dental forums where it became the target of ridicule and even anger from a number disbelieving dentists. The fact is that teeth can and do heal, even those in need of a root canal.
Whether or not conventional dentists choose to acknowledge it does not really matter. Holistic dentists know the truth! For example, Dr. Weston A. Price DDS documented many cases of cavities resolving when nutritional deficiencies were corrected in his book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration.
While I received many negative emails and comments from dentists (I also received a few positive emails from dentists, I might add), I was also delighted and amazed by stories from Moms just like me who had experiences very similar to my own…tooth problems resolving with nutrition or natural medicine alone!
One of the most interesting emails I received was from a homeopath named Kay, who lives in Australia, coincidentally right near where my husband was raised! Kay wrote me the following story which I thought so fascinating that it absolutely needed to be a guest post:
Homeopathy Instead of a Root Canal
Dear Sarah,
My sister who lives in Hong Kong sent me the link to your site after you wrote an article about butter oil and how it reversed tooth decay when taken along with cod liver oil.
I am a homeopath and teach workshops to parents on how to use natural medicine to raise healthy children, so I was fascinated by this piece of information and it prompted me to share another tooth story with you and your readers about how my son was saved from a root canal at the age of 14 years old by using natural medicine.
Jack had been playing golf with his brother over the school holidays and while hot tired and emotional ( a normal state of affairs for my son at the time), his golf club got stuck in the bag. So, with sheer brute force, he ripped it out of the bag straight into his mouth and broke off the bottom of his front tooth!
We went straight to the dentist who did tests and declared the root was dying and that he needed to do a root canal before the tooth discolored. I told him to remove his drill from my son’s mouth and said I would try and save the tooth with homeopathy. A not very happy dentist told me there was a time and place for homeopathy and this wasn’t it and if there was any remote chance I could save this tooth he would send me all his clients.
I took Jack home and gave him homeopathic Arnica for shock, trauma and bruising. Then, I used homeopathic hypericum, a great remedy every parent should know about as it repairs nerve damage. I gave it to Jack every few hours and then reduced it to 2 x day for the next week. In America I believe you can buy homeopathics in health food stores quite easily, so always have arnica and hypericum in your cupboard for “teeth” accidents.
Today Jack still has his original front tooth with a little cosmetic dentistry to build up the bottom half and the dentist still has not sent me one client!
Thanks for letting me share this story Sarah. Just knowing these small pieces of information can create such better health outcomes for our children and families.

One of my molar tooth had deep cavity. I got a filling and pulp capping therapy. However, I started having jaw and near-ear pain. An endodontist said that the nerve may be dying. They recommend root canal or extraction. How can I avoid them? I am considering removing the filling but the nerve may be nearly exposed. Can I heal it?

You can try the diet in Cure Tooth Decay mentioned in this post. It might work, but your tooth might be too far gone.

are there any holistic biologic dentists in CT. after an accident a metal cap then the filling fell out and it seemed to have been going to the pulp level now any suction pressure on the area causes what I best can describe as pulp pain. and the area has blackened. I have had a previous rootcanal that has failed as the he mismeasured dentist pushed the guta percha so far into the hole it came out of the side of the tooth additionally that tooth has another root he did not seem to find as it has hurt from day one . he referred me to endodontist however they only accepted cash. how convenient huh. and it was more than I could afford to pay for the service as they would not use my very expensive health and dental plan. Being I am now allergic to all local anesthetics. and I no longer trusts dentists which I was warily trusting them before. after bad experiences at age 5-6 resulting in all my molars being capped drilled and filled with out no pain relief due to my allergies. I try to do everything to avoid a dentist. My teeth are not so much bad, just certain ones have been damaged from dental work and accidents. I really need someone that I can afford and can handle a less than ideal patient. who reasonably has dental anxieties. willing to travel within tri state area of RI MA and NY as well if I find the right dentist.

I watched several times a video class by Doug Simons on taking care of you teeth (can’t recall exact title). He is an herbalist in N Mex. and learned of him thru the Grow Network (Marjorie…) He teaches about and grows a specific species of horsetail, hymnal — and sells the ground powder if you don’t want to grow it. But his video explains how long to take it and wait a while and take it each month. It is amazing and over the last 10 months I have literally watched and FELT my enamel regrow and sensitivity cease. May the Holy Spirit lead you in your steps through this situation.

Douglas I believe that its possible to completely pull the bacteria using oil (I prefer coconut oil). My experience has been that after the trauma and damage to the tooth and gum that the infection can return, especially with poor oral hygiene even as simple as not brushing after eating. But when I keep up with the oil pulling and brush regularly then I dont have any problems as long as food doesnt get stuck in my teeth.

I had severe pain in my tooth back in April but the it went away and there was nothing on the Xray. I had 3 rounds of antibiotics and I’ve been taking coconut supplements, cod liver oil and fish oil supplements, as well as rinsing with hydrogen peroxide. I’ve had no pain for months, just a little sensitivity. I thought now I could just get a crown to protect the “healed” tooth. But when I went back for another Xray, NOW it’s showing signs of decay inside at the root. My dentist is saying now it really is time for a root canal. Is there any way I can still avoid the root canal?? Anything at all that can reverse the decay WITHOUT this procedure? And what if I just leave it alone? It doesn’t hurt. But my dentist warned that could lead to the infection returning or worse, that it could spread.

I recommend a second opinion from a biological dentist.

Hi, my 7 year old daughter knocked her front adult tooth 10 months ago when it was growing -after having lost her milk tooth-. It’s now fully grown -minus about 1mm of the bottom that broke off when she knocked it- and it’s a bit discoloured. She’s got pretty good teeth, never had cavities or anything. But in the past 2 days she’s been complaining of having pain on her tooth and I worry, because a dentist said the only way forward is root canal. Do you think a more holistic treatment could help her? Thanks in advance.

I would recommend a second opinion from a holistic/biological dentist.

I have a broken tooth but it is also a cavity, and the dentist said the only options I have are root canal or extraction. I was wondering if there is any other option I have to save my tooth?
Sarah Pope MGA
Those are your only options. The best option for your health is extraction and to put in an implant made of safe materials. https://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/dental-implants/

I had a root canal and I am now have a suppressed immune, I believe it could be that there is still considerable bacteria in the tooth. Is there a way to kill the bacteria so my immune system can recover?
Sarah Pope MGA
Removal of the root canal is the only way to fix the problem. Then, you get a safe implant. https://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/dental-implants/
