One of the most popular articles on this site is how I healed my child’s cavity using the protocol recommended by Dr. Weston A. Price DDS, a dentist who penned the incredible book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration back in the 1930s.
Granted, the cavity I healed was an early cavity .. it was a hole in one of my child’s top front incisors and it filled in within weeks to be as smooth as the teeth next to it.
But what about a tooth with a really bad cavity? What if the cavity has actually eaten into the pulp of the tooth and your dentist recommends a root canal?
Guess what? You can save these teeth too.
The protocol for healing teeth even in such a state of complete degeneration is described in the book Cure Tooth Decay by Rami Nagel. This article on saving damaged teeth without a root canal provides a compelling testimonial of this approach.
I had the privilege of talking to Rami personally at the Wise Traditions Conference last year.
I have no doubt that our conversation helped to enable me to heal my child’s cavity some months later and write about it hopefully helping thousands of people in the process do the exact same thing.
Watch this video featuring Rami Nagel which describes the diet required to avoid and heal teeth at risk for a root canal. Even teeth that are in need of an immediate root canal can be helped.
If you have teeth in such a severe state of decay and think there is no hope, think again. Proper, traditionally based nutrition can work wonders even in these types of situations where the teeth need root canals. Make sure you listen through the whole video to be sure you understand Rami’s description of all aspects of the diet required to heal root canal teeth. It’s much more involved than taking a couple of supplements. There is no quick fix.
In addition, the diet required to heal the root canal teeth needs to be continued so that the problem does not re-emerge in the future.

Hi Sarah, I know this is an old post, I hope you see this comment 🙂 I have a root canal that is about 10+ years old. It needs either replacing or post/crown. I do not want either. My preference would be to pull the tooth and get a Dental Implant. What is your opinion on Dental implants? Are they toxic to your body like a root canal is? Thank you for any advice 🙂
Sarah TheHealthyHomeEconomist
Dental implants are very problematic. I actually am researching for a post on this currently. A bridge of a nesbit tooth would be better.

Do you know what this does to teeth that already have fillings in them? I’ve read so much info about this, but never about what it does to teeth with fillings. I have a filling that recently broke off now with a gaping hole 🙁 but I’ve been scarred for life by going to a dentist would hate to have them removed before starting this but might have to I don’t want to end up getting a root canal.

I had the same thing happen last year and was terrified too. I meticulous followed the diet outlined in ‘Cure Tooth Decay’ but eventually (three months later… please don’t wait that long) got a partial crown (an onlay). I realized after reading and reading that while teeth can rebuild, they cannot rebuild structure that’s been lost by drilling or breaking off. Hope that helps!!

I’ve read stories where the tooth re-mineralized to the point where the old filling fell out, so they can rebuild!!! I wish i could find the link to the story I read for you, but that was years ago ): I realize this probably won’t help much, but I did read a story that said that happened, and I remember for sure that bone broth was used, and a very strict diet with only that and raw food, mostly.

i knew there had to be a cure. they didnt do a root canal just yet. but they did cuta nerve out, cleaned the tooth and filled it with, something im not sure of…but although it maybe too late i dont think its still too late. because ive eaten food that does not hurt my tooth and some that really do. so my remedy right now is to eat things that wont hurt it….i will also keep up with the vitamin C and keep other remedies in mind. luckily i like cayenne…so im gonna keep all these things in mind. god bless.

Will my cavities still heal if I get a deep cleaning and start taking cod liver oil and butter oil? Or will taking those two thing get rid of tartar? Thanks in advance
Sarah TheHealthyHomeEconomist
No, it’s not just cod liver oil. You need to follow the whole diet as outlined in Cure Tooth Decay.

Back in 2008 I had my mercury fillings taken out and replaced with ceramic fillings. In the mean time, about 2012 I had a one of the fillings break away that was repaired at no extra cost. 2013 another one popped out and immediately the huge gap that could be seen was still dark as if the old filling hadn’t been removed properly. I procrastinated on returning to the dentist and keeping the hole in my tooth clean was rather difficult. A few weeks back it began to ache when I had hot/cold foods. I went to another dentist who wanted to root canal me and advised me against just pulling it out. ($180 to pull v’s $800 to root canal) I already had a root canal on my other side, and what thermal images of my mouth showed that the inflammation was actually on my root canal side (which I couldn’t feel) and not my aching tooth side. He and his assistant tried to bamboosal me with how safe root canals were and would not simply fill it. I kindly declined the offer and he prescribed me antibiotics for my tooth ache. I went home and did some research and began doing the oil pulling with coconut oil, sometimes brushing my teeth with MMS, consuming egg shells in my milk shakes and swishing my mouth out with boiled comfrey root. Within a week the aching had subsided. Found another dentist who said he’ take a look at it the week after the first and after a brief talk he agreed to just fill it, not guaranteeing anything and 3 weeks later all is good so far with no more tooth aches. For me it paid to not accept the answer I didn’t like.

Hi, I recently had a filling in one of my left front teeth, since then I noticed the tooth slowly getting sawer. I went back to the dentist who initially was unsure if there was a problem, on a second visit he said he thinks I might need a root canal. I can now feel infection right up to just below my left nostril and the tooth has now started to go black…
Is it too far gone if the tooth has started to go black?
I was very close to getting a root canal but cancelled the appointment when I started doing some research.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Michael
First off I want to recommend an amazing dentist site I have come across, in my similar search for holistic dental solutions .
His products serve multiple purposes and are simple , and really cheap!!!! They stimulate gum growth , as well as tooth whitening, healing and bone growth using calcium and zinc . They also seem to help solidify old root canals so they don’t need pulling . It’s really an amazing site. This dentist has been working for over 45 years and has made some really simple yet effective discoveries that allow the gums and teeth to heal naturally . It seems like a total paradigm shift . He sells a toothbrush that uses no toothpaste , a calcium liquid ,and packets that simulate the treatment he would give in his office . Search Calcium Therapy Institute . I am pretty excited to use these products for myself my child and my friends and family .

Did not read all the posts on this blog but just wanted to bring to attention a herbal deal that I found on internet. It is called Padma Basic. A study conducted had shown of 49 test subjects needing root canals were given Padma Basic for 30 days, roughly 82% had complete remission and it was root canal not needed after even 3 years. I have been taking 4 tabs of Padma Basic for two weeks now. The pain has very much subsided but if I miss a tab, then I can feel it (while taking hot tea). I am afraid that Padma is just a herbal version of antibiotic that keeps tooth pain with nerve infection, at bay. As soon as I finish my course of 30 days, I might be back to pain scenario in 2-3 days max. I plan for tooth extraction if that occurs as root canals are not healthy or even long term option. I could have been more careful with my diet (stopped taking pop but do 3 teas a day, fruits are normal and even smuggle in 3 cookies). Padma Basic is good for blood circulation, stronger immunity, anti oxidant etc. but seems (for now) root canal reversal might not happen. Will keep posted.

Hi Amit, did you find success on Padma Basic, and did you have to get any root canals? I am using this for the same reason. I have a wisdom tooth which will probably need to be pulled, and othet teeth affected by it. I follow Cure Tooth Decay protocol as well. The padma really seems to be helping. I have only been taking it one day!
