It’s hump day! We are halfway done with The 10-Day Milk Cure!
Are any of you still detoxing or have those symptoms gone away and you are now feeling terrific?
Any cravings or hunger?
Be sure to clue us all in via the comments section…
Paula: Crashed on my couch last night at 7:30 pm and slept clean through until 6 am. I usually sleep pretty well but it has been most improved and more “restful” since starting this fast. Digestion is usually good with gas and bloating typically minimal or after foods that are rarely eaten but it is nonexistent on this fast. No headaches, blemishes, or issues with constipation thus far. ‘I’m feeling good and energy still higher than usual. That’’s actually kind of scary if you know me.
I am still thinking the increased carbohydrates have something to do with this and will continue to experiment after the fast. Like I said I am a numbers girl. The first 4 days of the fast my calories have ranged from 2183-2663 and I am down 2 lbs although it could be from the heat yesterday and slightly reduced consumption.
Consumed 13 cups and weighed in at 116.6.
Richard: Played soccer really hard all afternoon. Had plenty of energy and the full speed running wasn’t a problem.
My joints and muscles feel fantastic. Drank about 5 cups again for the day in addition to 2 cups herbal tea and homemade kombucha. Sleeping great and everything is normal. I haven’t had any detox symptoms at all other than a bit of weakness/shakiness and some mild congestion the first couple of days.
Sarah: Felt terrific all day long. Didn’t nap and wasn’t hungry except for when I grilled up some grassfed burgers for the kids. The meat juice in the pan looked so tempting. I almost poured it straight into my mouth!
Had a small hive about the size of a dime appear just to the left of my left eye yesterday. No other hives appeared and it went away after a few hours. Strange. I haven’t had hives in decades. Perhaps more detoxing?
Forgot to mention that I sunned my belly again yesterday for about 20 minutes. I swear this helps keep my tummy flat. Have been doing this for years although the data is still very preliminary about the internal benefits to the body of direct sun.
I drank a full gallon of raw milk today as I really seemed to need it. Am trying to finish drinking earlier at night as having to get up to go to the bathroom at night from all the liquids is a bit annoying.
Weighed in again and am holding steady at 123. Woo-hoo! I think I’m going to make it!

Day 6 of the cleanse for me- It has been nearly entirely raw milk, milk thistle tea and kombucha. Saturday night is my partner’s and mine only night out in months, so we went out to dinner. I only had raw food though and a small helping at that. Couldn’t say no to our only night out!
I haven’t had any real cravings and definitely feel my blood sugar has normalized for the first time in about 20 years. It used to be when I got hungry, I would be famished and my brain would go numb. I’ve tried following the “Diet Cure” by Julia Ross and supplementing with amino acids but it has never reached the level of equilibrium it has with drinking raw milk.
I also have a slight yellowing around the inner canthus of my eyes which is a sign of some liver damage. Once I noticed that this too was also clearing up I started focusing on my liver and drinking milk thistle tea along with the raw milk. It’s a nice supplement because it’s warm and all the cold milk is a bit rough on my stomach. It’s not all that warm in Northern CA yet.
As far as the condition of my tongue is concerned; it’s hanging in there. The color has come back a bit more and the coating has evened out so it looks like my digestions doing well! Bowels are regular and urine is regular (lt yellow and not cloudy). I think the warm liquids and allowing the milk to get to room temperature has helped a lot. Skin is also improving, sun freckles are even fading.
Have begun exercising and energy has been good, as well as hydration which was a great surprise!
In an attempt to increase the regenerative effects of the cleanse I’m also taking astaxanthin and fermented cod liver/butter supplements. This has turned from a cautious experiment into an exciting experience for me- thanks again for the inspiration and a new way to cleanse!

Day 7: Slight constipation today, better then the last two days. Seems the herbal ginger tea has helped. Do you think the constipation is a symptom of the detox or something else?
I just notices how good my joints have felt. I’ve been feeling really good. I’ve had two injured achilles that would just not get better and they seem to be feeling better each day. Maybe a coincidence??? Mind clarity has been obvious.

wondering if the problems with digestion will eventually go away on it’s own? I drank mostly warm kefir, some cold milk and kombucha yesterday and still having trouble. I’m going to try sipping milk instead of gulping today and hope that helps. I started on wednesday but ate on saturday so I’m kind of only on day 3. Also wondering how often you can use an enema before it causes harm and is a salt water flush a healthy thing to do?
Sarah, TheHealthyHomeEconomist
Enemas are NOT salt water. It is just plain filtered water warmed on the stove to just above body temperature. Use 1 quart. You can use several a day safely if need be.
rebecca
I actually meant drinking salt water like they do in the master cleanse. thank-you!
Eli
I sure wish I was doing this with you all! I have does due to freshen any day now so maybe I’ll do it on my own in a few weeks. Maybe next year you could consider starting a little later in the spring, when there will be more milk flowing! I started the Milk Cure about a year & a half ago but only stayed with it about 3 days. I loved that I was not hungry at all & I had plenty of energy. Unfortunately I started having some allergy issued, which really surprised me so I thought it was wise to stop. I am temped to try it again, though. Eager too!
Jeanette
Eli,
This is just my opinion but even with allergic reactions I would suggest to keep going once you start. I have all kinds of allergies so for me this time of year is one of the worst. Every tree that I know I’m allergic to are all shoving out pollen right now and other than a slight sinus headache most days I have been feeling wonderful. No runny nose or cough! Your reaction last time may have been as much detox symptoms as anything. As you already know goat’s milk is the best so I would start this asap and see how long you can stick with it. Like several others have commented I am seriously thinking of continuing drinking raw milk as the majority of my food intake even after this fast is over.
Baby goats – awww!

Day 5 — March 5
Today is my first day back into the “real world” (outside of all-day classes for the past two days) of food and family, etc. I’ve had 2 cups of milk (probably more than 8 oz each) and it’s 1pm. Not very hungry, no cravings, feel fine. I feel calm and centered.
I spent several hours with three children, ages six and under. We spent a few hours out in the warm sun, playing at the park. My energy, digestion, mood, everything has been great all day.
I am so happy I made it through Day 5! This is the first time I’ve ever done a fast. It really didn’t even feel like a fast because I was never hungry. I felt nourished and fed the entire time.
I am going to complete my fast today. I feel satisfied with what I did and I am looking forward to eating, for the sheer pleasure of it. I learned a lot about myself: that I usually overeat and that I don’t need to eat very much when I am truly nourished, and that I’m usually eating from a sensual desire, not out of hunger. I really enjoyed the SIMPLICITY of the fast. It freed up a lot of brain power and physical time for me, as I did not have to think about what to buy, make, eat. I really enjoyed it. I will be drinking a lot more raw milk from here on out. Usually I stock it for my son, but I will always have it on hand for myself now. I am thinking of using raw milk as a meal, once or even twice a day now. It’s so easily digestible, gives my body a rest, and is simple. It’s completely satisfying to me. It helped me greatly with cravings for sweets.
Thank You for this website and for all the work you do, Sarah! I tell a lot of people about this website because it has helped me so much, and has really inspired me on my journey of true health. Continued success!

Yesterday was the first day that I had congestion and I still have some this morning. Am still drinking about a gallon each day. I stop drinking by 6:30 pm so as not to wake to potty at night. Weight remaining the same, I would like to loose some. Joints still feel good no pain or stiffness.
Linda
Sarah, I was wondering can you buy raw milk at the store or do you get it from a farmer? I’m curious how many gallons of milk you get each week, especially for this raw milk fast. Also, if sunning your belly really makes it flat, I have to start doing that. Nothing else is working!
Sarah, TheHealthyHomeEconomist
I get it from a farm.
Bob
I too was unable to start on schedule, but will be starting soon. Was finishing up a Master Cleanse fast. I think that the elimination portion of this diet might be as or even more important than the fast itself. Financially it is difficult to spend the money necesary to do this fast on just lil ol me, but I will trust that my “Provider” will do just that and am looking forward to starting.
Miss Sarah, did you recieve my request for a advertizing package for Canine Carriages?
Sarah, TheHealthyHomeEconomist
Hi Bob, no I didn’t receive anything about this. Sorry, I get so many emails everyday sometimes things slip through. Can you please resend? Would love to check out what you have to offer and see if something might work out for mutual benefit.

Greetings fellow fasters! I actually started yesterday because I did a spiritual fast last Friday, which is no food or drink for 24 hours, so thought I’d better wait a couple of days. I was so excited to start this fast as it made so much sense to me! I have done a juice fast for about 3 days–by day 3 craved protein BAD. I have done the Lemonade Master Cleanse 3 different times and, again, by day 3 crave protein really bad. I read the book, The Untold Story of Milk, by Dr. Ron Schmid, ND a few years ago and it really resonated with me because I used to LOVE the milk I would drink while visiting my uncle’s farm when I was little. Many of my friends, as you might imagine, think I am nuts–mostly those that are vegan or vegetarians. SO–I created a blogspot so they could follow my daily experiences. If you’d like to check it out it’s http://www.wisdomofyourbody.blogspot.com.
Thank you Sara (and Paula) for this wonderful blog. I have been following you for about two months now and I really appreciate all the honest information you post. I gave the homemade formula recipe to many women who have recently adopted an infant or had a child that wouldn’t nurse (that’s a whole other saga–I’m sure).

Hello Sarah!
I cannot thank you enough for recommending this fast. I couldn’t wait to start so I began last Tuesday. That morning I woke up with itchy eyes, itchy throat and a stuffy nose, as usual, because I have always struggled with seasonal allergies. Although, I will say my allergies did subside almost completely after starting the WAPF principles in my diet four years ago. But, for some reason this year they had returned full force. So, when I started reading about this raw milk fast and how it can help all sorts of ailments, I couldn’t wait to see if it would help my allergies. It has been eight days and they have only flared up two times since going on the fast. Both times they were only for a short period of time. The first time was on the third day because I had eaten a couple bites of soup and the second was when I broke the fast by eating a small salad. I can only assume I am like a baby again and all I can handle in my gut is RAW MILK! All that being said, I am so happy to report that if I stick to the good stuff (raw milk) my allergies completely disappear!!! I am feeling great with energy levels continuing to amaze me and I am dropping weight of about 1lb per day on 3quarts a day. My goal is to lose 15lbs. I am getting there quicker than I expected. The first two days I did have some digestion issues with loose stools, slight headaches and fatigue. After the first two days, all I continue to have is the slight headaches and that is when I know my blood sugar is down. I pour myself another cup of milk and it quickly goes away. My husband’s goal is to lose 15-20 lbs and he has lost 6-8 lbs in seven days on the fast. He also broke his addiction to caffeine and sugar! The first four days he had a severe headache and had to take ibuprofen for the first two days. Now, he feels great and does not need the caffeine in the morning because he is full of energy. His job is very strenuous at times (garage door repair) but he has been able to complete his work as long as he drinks plenty of water and a glass of milk an hour. We are both doing incredibly well and plan to stay on the fast until we reach our weight loss goals. I plan to stay on the fast until I can introduce foods without any type of seasonal allergies returning.
Thanks again for spurring us on to do this,
Rachel and Jason G.

Rachel, I am very surprised by what you are experiencing. Never did I think The Milk Cure would stop seasonal allergies in their tracks. This fast has turned out so far beyond what I expected! So glad you joined in!
Christine E.
When I started the milk cure, I went off the allergy pill I was taking. It was a big thing for me because pollen counts in the NE and my normal triggers are active right now. I’m also happy to report that after being stuffy for a few days, my sinuses are great. I’ll say it again, I’m not sure I want to go off this milk cure on the 10th.
Paula
Rachel that’s great!! I am going to forward your reply to my workout buddy Steph who was just again today complaining about her allergies while we were working out outside. She needs to try this.

Rachel and Paula – I am very inspired by this as I am suffering terribly with allergies right now. My question is, What happens with the milk fast is over? I can’t live on the milk alone forever…….. Please advise.
