It’s hump day! We are halfway done with The 10-Day Milk Cure!
Are any of you still detoxing or have those symptoms gone away and you are now feeling terrific?
Any cravings or hunger?

Paula: Crashed on my couch last night at 7:30 pm and slept clean through until 6 am. I usually sleep pretty well but it has been most improved and more “restful” since starting this fast. Digestion is usually good with gas and bloating typically minimal or after foods that are rarely eaten but it is nonexistent on this fast. No headaches, blemishes, or issues with constipation thus far. ‘I’m feeling good and energy still higher than usual. That’’s actually kind of scary if you know me.
I am still thinking the increased carbohydrates have something to do with this and will continue to experiment after the fast. Like I said I am a numbers girl. The first 4 days of the fast my calories have ranged from 2183-2663 and I am down 2 lbs although it could be from the heat yesterday and slightly reduced consumption.
Consumed 13 cups and weighed in at 116.6.
Richard: Played soccer really hard all afternoon. Had plenty of energy and the full speed running wasn’t a problem.
My joints and muscles feel fantastic. Drank about 5 cups again for the day in addition to 2 cups herbal tea and homemade kombucha. Sleeping great and everything is normal. I haven’t had any detox symptoms at all other than a bit of weakness/shakiness and some mild congestion the first couple of days.
Sarah: Felt terrific all day long. Didn’t nap and wasn’t hungry except for when I grilled up some grassfed burgers for the kids. The meat juice in the pan looked so tempting. I almost poured it straight into my mouth!
Had a small hive about the size of a dime appear just to the left of my left eye yesterday. No other hives appeared and it went away after a few hours. Strange. I haven’t had hives in decades. Perhaps more detoxing?
Forgot to mention that I sunned my belly again yesterday for about 20 minutes. I swear this helps keep my tummy flat. Have been doing this for years although the data is still very preliminary about the internal benefits to the body of direct sun.
I drank a full gallon of raw milk today as I really seemed to need it. Am trying to finish drinking earlier at night as having to get up to go to the bathroom at night from all the liquids is a bit annoying.
Weighed in again and am holding steady at 123. Woo-hoo! I think I’m going to make it!

Day 8 for me and feeling fine!

Oh, my body temperature was up yesterday, still low but up none the less and this is unusual for me.

Day 6 for me. How exciting. Had a good nights sleep. Woke up refreshed and clear-headed and it is actually SUNNY here!!! but, cold with snow on the ground.
It has been a good experience and a good test of my will power. I considered quitting for a fleeting few minutes Day 4 in the afternoon due to unrelenting hunger pangs but I really want to see it through.
Yesterday felt fairly normal except bowel issues (lack thereof) yesterday and the day before. And not so great today. Wonder what I should do about that??? A quick enema really did nothing, but I don’t have any real side effects from not going that I can tell. Should I be trying to drink more milk?
I have lost 5 pounds in 5 days with no drop this morning.
Unlike most of you I have been very HUNGRY. No cravings just have hunger pangs a lot throughout afternoon and evenings, even if I have recently had a glass. Keeping it to a half gallon a day or less so maybe it just isn’t enough. I am drinking more water than normal, too.
I haven’t had a lot more energy or brain clarity than normal, but I do have quite a bit of energy as a general rule. Again, could be the weather, at least the energy part.
There may be a very slight improvement in the inflammation in my fingers and hand, better in the morning, worse as the day goes on.
Broken veins in my cheeks appear lighter yet again today.
Went for Epsom salts, the smells were wonderful coming from the deli, but I wasn’t tempted. I did have a hard time articulating a couple of times with sales personnel, seemed worse than normal.
I too, think I could easily have a glass of milk as a meal replacement once I get back to a normal eating schedule. It’s nice not having to think about what to cook, cleaning up, dishes, etc.

Headaches are gone and my energy is up! 😀

I’m a couple days behind due to my schedule, but much energy level is much improved today. I’ve never done a fast before, so I was unsure what to expect…I do crave food when I cook something for my husband, but other than that, I have no cravings. I feel completely “normal” – for me that is. 😀

I’m sure everyone has seen the recent headline: New Harvard study links industrial dairy to increased cancer rates.
“Dr. Ganmaa Davaasambuu, Ph.D., and her colleagues specifically identified “milk from modern dairy farms” as the culprit, referring to large-scale confinement operations where cows are milked 300 days of the year, including while they are pregnant. Compared to raw milk from her native Mongolia, which is extracted only during the first six months after cows have already given birth, pasteurized factory milk was found to contain up to 33 times more estrone sulfate.”
How often are raw milk dairy cows milked? Is there a need to be concerned about the
estrone sulfate in raw dairy?
Tennille
How often and how long cows/goats are milked is up to the individual farmer. I have 2 milking does and only breed them every other year (well into year 2 and the does give me a combined amount of 1 gallon a day – WOW). We milk them 2 times a day to keep up their supply. Many farmers breed every year and stop milking for the last 2 months of pregnancy (I have no need for extra kids, baby goats, every year). So I guess there could be increased estrogen in the first 3 months of being the doe being pregnant and being milked. If you are concerned about estrogen, maybe just buy raw milk during the months between kidding and breeding season ( approx. march – september).

So much depends on the practices of each individual dairy! The dairy I get my raw milk from is not certified organic but they are grass fed and she uses as little chemical/medical intervention as possible so for me the hormone issue is not a problem. Talk to your dairy men & women. If they don’t answer questions about their cows, their milk and/or their operations I would look for another supplier/dairy.
Generally cows are milked twice a day no matter the kind of dairy. Good dairy practices would dictate that the cow is allowed to nurse her calf for a few weeks before giving milk for human consumption. Again that is different from dairy to dairy.

I am on day 6. The first couple of days I felt weak and shaky at times but now I feel fine. I don’t weigh myself but I just feel lighter. It is also nice to never have that “I ate too much!” feeling. I also had a slight headache off and on the first few days. I normally drink one cup of tea or coffee a day and love sweets so I think I suffered some withdrawal. The only real issue for me has been pain in my legs. This was bad enough that I had to take aspirin 2 nights in order to get to sleep-pretty discouraging since I haven’t taken a pain killer in years. I read the posts that suggested a lack of magnesium. I took a bath with epsom salt but can’t say that helped. So now I have added oat straw infusion – one quart each day and that seems to alleviate it some. If it wasn’t for this pain I could say I am feeling great!

Day 6 and feeling energetic and relaxed. Was somewhat irritable yesterday from a heavy schedule and lack of sleep, but slept well. I have to be more regular with timing to be sure I drink the milk consistany throughout the day. Forgot to drink for hours yesterday and that may have added to irratabity. I only ended up drinking one quart. I do feel lighter though am not weighing cause don’t want to focus on weight loss and get discouraged. This fast is not about weight loss for me :). I’ll be happy to lose a few though and ok if I don’t.
Thanks Sarah and Paula. This fast is an excellent experience to do together for many reasons as we all know.
