One week down and only 3 days to go! Â I can’t believe we will be finished with The (raw) Milk Cure in just a few days.
Are you going to continue past the 10 day point? Â What are your thoughts and plans?
Are you dropping any weight or holding steady? Â Any improvement in symptoms if you are fasting for that reason?
Please share with us in the comments section.
Paula: Â Slept tremendously last night. Â Good energy throughout the morning. Â Workout okay – not a whole lot of energy during that for whatever reason nor the rest of the afternoon. Â Very tired, energy not as good as it was at the beginning of the fast. Â Very irritable and short on patience. Â Had a busy afternoon and didn’t drink as much milk. Very hungry when I got home and for the first time during the fast I wanted to eat – badly!
Eyed my nice raw hot pepper jack cheese in the refrigerator. Â The only reason I did not eat it last night was because of the commitment I made to you all and to myself. Â I sucked it up, drank 2 1/2 cups of milk, and was fine from a hunger standpoint. Â I think I am experiencing subtle signs of detoxing after all – I just didn’t realize it with how hectic the past week has been. Â Must be sluggish detoxification pathways? Â My skin looked slightly clearer this morning. Â Consumed 13.5 cups and weighed in at 116.4.
Richard: Â Didn’t sleep well as was up several times with one of the kids who was restless. Â Still felt good at 5am when I got up to start the day. Â Drank 5-6 cups of milk throughout the day as usual. Â Didn’t feel hungry and am doing fine.
I might be dropping some weight although I can’t be sure. Â My pants fit pretty much the same so it would seem not.
Sarah:Â Today was milk pickup and I wondered how I would feel as this is always a very busy and physically strenuous day for me. Â Was sneezing a lot again this morning but it passed after a few hours.
Drank some kombucha I made at home in addition to the milk as I didn’t want to get dehydrated from working too hard for so many hours without a break.
Had good energy during pickup but after tying up all loose ends by 2 pm felt very tired. Â Took a 2-hour nap after the kids got home from school. I really needed some rest.
Still tired even after napping. Â Am really wanting to eat dinner as I prepare a meal for the kids. Â Finished with the last of 14 cups of milk for the day around 7 pm.
Not hungry but feeling a bit weak. Â Drank some herbal tea and went to bed at 10 pm. Â Fell asleep easily despite a nap earlier in the day.

That was my Day 5 – This was probably my first day of any cravings, or just hungry, as I went from my usual 8 cups to less, although I hit 6 1/2 total by end of the day. I had one last glass to not go to bed hungry. In that total I had some raw cheese. Kind of felt like I cheated and that was just egging me on to want to break the fast, so won’t do that again. I did Crossfit again yesterday, and maybe those workouts are catching up to me, so will have several rest days from that now. I have no healing needs, just hoping to cleanse and lose some, so have just listened to my body on the exercise and milk quantities. I admit I’ve had a cup of coffee each morning. Yesterday I also had a green tea and a Smooth Move. I loved the SM so will have some of that today. Have had BM every day, with slight constipation starging last few days. I will start the new day with my yogurt, and maybe have 2 cups of that. I think I am running into some detox just starting with Day 5. I will take it easy today and make sure I have enough milk. Funny thing – I’ve been on a food network binge since day one, seemed kind of coincidental, but it didn’t make me crave food. Last night I was totally grossed out by a pizza commercial. LOL.

Slept great, feel great, more energy, less joint aches, which were not awful, but I noticed them. The idea of meat and veggies is good, but I am not desperate. I am amazed at no bread and sugar cravings, although milk is sweet.
Been thinking and praying for Vernon. A look at the scale tells me I have lost about 7 lbs, not a bad thing. I walk and stretch and go about my regular day. The deer stew I made for my husband last night looked tasty, and he assured me it was.

Day 9 for me.
Day 8 I did Crossfit at 6AM and had a busy 11 hour work day and a strenuous Brazilian Jiu Jitsu match at 8PM… felt strong (and kicked the 20 somethings butt). Added some fresh raw yogurt to my diet today… BEST YOGURT I’VE EVER HAD! Just the change in texture from the milk was nice. One more day on the cleanse and then 5 days of slowly adding foods back.
Sarah, Any advice on the adding foods back in?
thanks
Sarah, TheHealthyHomeEconomist
Go slow … Paula’s post from last year on how she added the foods back in is great.
You probably won’t be able to eat much at first anyway.
Sarah, TheHealthyHomeEconomist
Would have loved to watch that match by the way. Did you tell anyone that you’ve fasting on nothing but raw milk for the past week? Many jaws would have been on the ground.
Rick
Oh yeah, I think you know Jana de Lima, Her husband is my Jiu Jitsu professor and they were the ones who first introduced me to raw milk and Weston A Price. He is was very curious how it was going.
Joy
Could you give us some more tips on how exactly to introduce food? I notice Paula started with fruit. Is that what we should do?
Sarah, TheHealthyHomeEconomist
Homemade soup would top my list.

I am thinking about doing the raw milk fast soon. I was wondering how it would go if I did in conjunction with homemade broth as well. As in alternating milk and broth instead of just milk.
Paula
Bacon this year for me. Bacon. Will let you know how it goes

Start of day 8 for me. I have not slept well for two nights. I wake up and cannot go back to sleep, Tues. up at 2:30 am and last night 5:30 am, better anyway. I am still hungry most all the time afternoons and evenings and now feeling irritable. I have been drinking around 8 glasses. Yesterday I only have 6 because of my schedule. I felt weak and a little dizzy when I went to bed and did not go to sleep easily. BM’s are pretty much non-existent. No cramping or anything tho’. Laying in bed I felt that it may be time to end the fast, even though I would like to see it through. I am just not feeling all that well. Detoxing maybe, I don’t know. No weight loss overnight, still at 6 pounds lost. This morning I have a fuzzy forehead headache. I am upping my water intake today. I will see how today goes before I make the decision to stop and if I do I will break it tomorrow. I have a fairly physical day today and I am not sure how that will go, but I do plan on napping this afternoon.

Kathy, I would try to do an enema to clean yourself out. Not having bowel movements is not good and it’s bound to cause discomfort, headaches, pressure in the head, sleeplessness and irritability. I did the milk fast for 10 days and I did one enema each afternoon. I would not have had a bowel movement otherwise. It turned out to be a painless fast with no unpleasant side effects and I attribute that to my daily internal cleansing. Anyway, unless you eliminate in some fashion, the toxins will remain in the bloodstream and can make you quite miserable.

Yesterday was only day 3 for me, so I am envious of those who only have that many to go! have not been “hungry” at all, and make it through the day with very little side effects. My job is very sedentary, but I’ve tried to walk our stairs here a few times each day, just to be moving a bit. I have lost almost 6lbs just since Monday! Still not much movement in the bowels, but I don’t think I can drink more than 6-8 cups a day…
I noticed last night that I was a bit irritable, for no real reason, and I don’t know if that has anything to do with the fast or not. Evenings have been the worst… every-other commercial is food… I’m not hungry, but miss the taste of food. It’s a weird sensation to not want it in my stomach (cause it feels full), but just want it in my mouth for the taste. I really think this may be something that has always been an issue for me, but is much more at the forefront than ever before.
Enjoy reading everyone’s posts 🙂
Patricia
You’re not the only one who wants food. 🙂 none of us seem to be hungry but we can’t wait to eat
Sarah, TheHealthyHomeEconomist
You are going to die laughing when you see how Paula and I break our fast! I cannot WAIT!
Dorothy
Dh is on day 7 and is doing great with it with no desire to eat. He’s not doing much that is strenuous, so that helps. He drinks about a half to 3/4 of a gallon most days.
I’m on day 3 and feel okay, though I’ve been somewhat emotionally fragile. I don’t know how long I’ll keep it up, but some might be better than none.
I’m not measuring, but I’m probably drinking 3/4 to a gallon a day, with about two cups of kefir. I had hot lemon water with stevia this morning. I’ve slept well the last few nights, maybe a bit sounder than usual.
I have a milk taste in my mouth, too. I guess rinsing with water after drinking might take that away.

Hi Dorothy (and Diana G.) I too have experience the milk after taste and I drank lemon water or chewed a piece of xylitol gum.

Day 1 complete
I drank 5 cups of milk and was never hungry–a new experience for me. I am always hungry! Had some bouts of headache, but could be my menses. I have not read the guide to the milk cure and so and flying a bit blind on that so I have nothing to offer on that subject. I have a milk taste in my mouth all day and coating of white on my tongue. The latter I suspect is detoxing, and the former, well, did anyone else have this? This must be what babies taste all day! My scale says I went from 160 poiunds yesterday to 157 today which is hard to believe. I am curious about the earlier post someone made about sunning one’s tummy to keep it flat. What is the word on that?
Cheers and bottoms up!
D.
Charis Wolf, LAc
The white coating on the tongue might be detoxing, but either way it’s a sign that your digestion is congested. In Chinese Medicine looking at the tongue is a main way of diagnosing internal systems. If you can brush the white coat off when you brush your teeth it’s not too big a deal. If it stays and looks greasy then you’ve got some re-balancing to do. If it doesn’t come off, try drinking the milk at room temperature and supplementing with some herbal digestive tea. If your body temperature runs warm try peppermint tea and if you run cold try something more warming with cardamon and/or spearmint (I believe yogi teas makes a tummy tea that’s more on the warming side.)
Joy
My tongue has been white the whole time. I honestly think its just because I have been drinking so much milk because I never have a white tongue. Someone else mentioned that their tongue has turned white too. 🙂

Day seven was good. I had an interview which went really well. No hunger pains. Still good, steady energy. I am beginning to dream about how I am going to break the fast though… A hamburger sounds so good!
Flo
I broke down and went to the doctors as I just couldn’t take it anymore. Found out I have a virus and the good news is I can stay on the Milk Cure and no antibiotics. But I am disappointed to say I am taking Ibuprofen as the pain is horrid. Good news Is I am down 22 bls since Jan. and 7 since I started the milk cure. I am drinking about 4-5 glasses a day and I am not hungry. I only drank 3 cups yesterday as I’m not feeling well and am not hungry. I plan to stay on the the milk cure for awhile longer. I am not sure how long but I want to do it until I am better and a few days after.
Sarah, TheHealthyHomeEconomist
I am sorry for your pain Flo. I hope you feel better very soon!

It’s interesting reading these posts and learning about this milk fast. But I’m confused at how everyone is going about this. After reading how this milk cure was original used, everyone is supposed to be resting to get the benefits of it, but here everyone is working out, going to work, being busy, busy, busy. After reading the original plan for this, without resting you can’t expect to really give your body the conditions it needs to benefit from this, since the body needs to be at rest to do it’s healing – I believe the article/instructions said that exercising would interfere with the healing process. I’m not trying to cause trouble or be critical because I really wanted to do this until I read through the instructions. There’s really no way I can lounge about for a week or more (at least not right now), but I really don’t feel it’s exactly safe or beneficial to try it any other way. Do you all know something that isn’t in those instructions? I notice that some of you are getting irritable, tired, & hungry as you progress (which in itself isn’t surprising even if you were resting), but I wonder if you’d experience less of that if you were really following how this fast is supposed to be done ?
Patricia
I haven’t been hungry at all. The only exercise I’ve done is walking however. I have lost about 5lbs, I sleep very well and I drink about 6 glasses a day. I feel great and plan on doing this again.
Mikki
I’ve been wondering about that too plus no enemas like in The Milk Cure of years ago and a great many participating are still drinking things like herbal teas and I’ll bet a few are drinking some caffeinated beverages too because caffeine is really hard to get off of, or maybe that’s why so many are having headaches. So, this is more of a cleansing fast, and not a cure of a disease? I’m enjoying reading about it all!
Paula
This is the real world. Most people have to work for a living. I would love nothing more than to take a whole week and just rest and let the body heal. That would be ideal. But like you if I waited for that to happen I would most likely never partake in the raw milk fast. I did very light exercise last year just to sweat and exercised with normal intensity this year. IMHO I think it is better with the reduced intensity, my workouts were far from my best and I scaled back. As far as the fatigue and irritability go I would attribute that to detoxing because I am going at my “normal” pace and I am rarely tired and irritable.
Sarah, TheHealthyHomeEconomist
There are still benefits even while doing the regular routine but no doubt it would be better if we all just did nothing but rest on a beach in Hawaii during all this!
I know for me … I am taking daily cleansing baths and napping a lot. I rarely nap normally speaking.
