Virgin coconut oil is making a strong comeback. After decades of derision and active avoidance by those who mistakenly believed it would clog their arteries and give them heart disease, unrefined, pure virgin coconut oil is finally getting its day in the sun.
The research of Dr. Weston A. Price in the early part of the last century as documented in his groundbreaking book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration provides a scientific basis for this change of heart. Dr. Price noted through his careful, first-hand analysis of Traditional Diets from all over the world that the people of the South Sea Islands who consumed large amounts of virgin coconut oil in their diet actually suffered the lowest amount of heart disease!
In fact, heart disease was virtually nonexistent in this virgin coconut oil loving culture. These people also exhibited strong resistance to disease, easy fertility, strong and beautifully straight teeth, and vitality well into old age. In addition, the women were renowned for their youthful beauty and luminous skin no matter what their age.
Always quick to adopt a trend that holds promise for improvement and maintenance of physical beauty and health, celebrities are digging the benefits of virgin coconut oil too.
Below is the top ten list of famous personalities that use virgin coconut oil regularly by including it as part of their health and wellness regimen:

Would love to try cooking with coconut oil, but doesn’t it cause heart disease? I looked up some research about coconut oil and there are many Dr’s who say it isn’t good for you. So I am a little confused. Hoping someone can enlighten me on the subject..

I avoided it because I had one that didn’t work well. Tonight I tried my organic virgin Trader Joe’s and my skin already feels smooth! Must have been a low grade oil I had before..this may be the beginning of a beautiful relationship! Thanks for posting!! 🙂

Our movie theater, very upscale, uses it for popping their popcorn. Flavor is overwhelming and not in a god way!

I was using Nature’s Way organic virgin and Jarrow’s organic expeller pressed. More recently I’ve been using Trader Joe’s. It’s organic and virgin, but is not overwhelming. I like it but realize that at $6 a pint it might not be of the highest quality. Does anyone else have an opinion about it?

I’ve used it too and actually like it. Their web site says it is cold pressed and no chemicals, bleach or high heat used to process. Plus it comes in glass. As a supplement I still use a higher quality but I really like this one for cooking. It is really good in Sarah’s cold breakfast cereal recipe.

Sarah,
I have been using both extra virgin coconut oil and expeller pressed Tropical Traditions for the past year or 2 and just recently noticed that on the side of my 5gal bucket of expeller pressed it says “refined”. Also Wilderness family naturals brand says “refined” for the expeller pressed. Is that still ok/ healthy to consume?
I was reading in my Weston A price Shopping guide book and under fats & Oils it lists only “Unrefined” virgin coconut oil and I couldn’t find any where that it recommends “refined expeller pressed coconut oil.”
What are your thoughts on this?
Thanks so much!! Melissa

My favorite coconut oil is from Green Pasture. It has a nice fresh coconut flavor and scent, doesn’t smell burnt like others I’ve tried.

I must say, since I have pushed coconut oil 5 years ago at Whole Foods Market, I see a huge swing in the Whole Body department I am in. I put every person I meet on it, and I have to say we cannot keep in on the shelf!!!
