How to Best Swallow Cod Liver Oil (VIDEO)

by Sarah Pope / Affiliate Links ✔

swallow cod liver oil

In this nuts and bolts video, I show you exactly how I swallow cod liver oil and high vitamin butter oil every day!  My kids take it the very same way.

That’s right.  I’m slugging it down for the whole wide world to see.

You now have no excuse.  This is how to get those critical nutrients A, D, and K2 every single day – quickly and painlessly.   You won’t get enough any other way more unless you eat pretty close to perfect and eat liver 2-3 times a week (who does?) so get a grip and start taking it already!  Ok?

If you have a child too young to take cod liver oil by spoon, you can always try the bottoms-up approach. This works very well for diapered children.

Price DDS.

How to Swallow Cod Liver Oil without Gagging

In the video below, I demonstrate exactly how to get cod liver oil down without gagging. This is the easy process I’ve used for years in our home and it works great for toddlers and adults alike.

Ideally, cod liver oil should be taken with butter oil for maximum benefit. You can get butter oil and cod liver oil from the best manufacturers here.

Once you have established this healthful daily habit, you will be shocked to notice colds and flus slowly disappear from your household. In fact, my oldest is almost 18 years old and no antibiotics have been used during his entire childhood or that of his two younger siblings. Yes, it is possible to raise children with zero antibiotics.  I’ve done it three times and learning to swallow cod liver oil so it isn’t a big drama every single day is a big reason why.

Cute video! We take the cinnamon tingle FCLO and have no problems with it. Next time though I think we’ll just go for the unflavored one. My husband refuses to take it because the cinnamon is so strong. He promises he’ll take the plain next time I order. With my kids I take a more…well, sneaky approach. I tell them their FCLO *IS* medicine and they take it out of the syring just fine. Well, it is medicine, right?! Food medicine!

Oh gosh. I bought the Cinnamon Tingle gel, and the flavor was so strong, I just decided I’d rather taste the fishiness. I thought my son (2.5 years) would be able to take the cinnamon since he loves that flavor, but it actually kind of burns going down. I ended up giving the entire bottle to my boss. He won’t take any other flavors of FCLO. I’m going to try rubbing it on his bottom tonight! Never heard that particular tip before, but I’m glad I’ve got a way around it w/ my kid, at least. Hubby’s still a work in progress. I don’t think he’d like me rubbing FCLO on HIS bottom. =)

    Sarah,
THANK YOU! I will now get the emulsified cod liver out of the back of my fridge and try again. I wasn’t aware of how “gagging” it would be when I took my first big tsp. full last month. Does the skate oil taste any better or different than the cod liver? Btw- ginger flavor is not so good. I will go with cinnamon or mint next time.

I will try this. My kids don’t complain about taking it so far. I usually give them a slice of lemon to put in their mouth right after swallowing it, but I think not tasting it at all is even better than chasing the flavor away with lemon.

I totally want to see the kids take it! 🙂 I’m trying that next time!

What about the combination butter oil and cod liver oil? Is it ok? Or do I need to take twice as much? 🙂 I just put it on a spoon, lick it off, chug water and swallow it like a pill. If you leave that cinnamon tingle in your mouth too long, it burns! The longer I take it, the easier it gets. How much per day should an adult take? And how do you figure dosage for a child? Thanks for all your great information!

    Hi Sarah,

Is butter oil needed for the vitamin K2? If so, can one eat hard, grass-fed cheese with the CLO?

    Sarah,

Have you heard if it’s better to apply topically rather than swallowing cod liver oil?

    Thanks!

I don’t think applying topically is better. It’s just an alternative if swallowing is prohibitive for some reason.

I use the peppermint FCLO and I actually like the taste! I wash it down with kefir and that seems to get rid of the fishy aftertaste.

Sarah, just curious,…….what would you do?

I have been reading and reading AND reading about this, and haven’t brought myself yet to actually do it. My family is still transitioning into eating, as they say, “the weird things momma eats”,……… I think they’ll have to start with capsules first,…they’ll absolutely freak out if I have them try the liquid,……but, with the cost (there are 10 of us, yes, I have 8 kiddos), should I start with just a few of us or everyone at once but at a lesser dose?

Go to your pantry and clean out every piece of junk food and refined carbs that is in there. This should give you the funds for the fermented cod liver oil. It’s just too important. You have to draw the line in the sand about it and just tell your family that you are going to take it and that is that. End of story 🙂 You can tell I don’t have any trouble with friendly confrontation, can’t you? LOL
