In this nuts and bolts video, I show you exactly how I swallow cod liver oil and high vitamin butter oil every day! Â My kids take it the very same way.
That’s right. Â I’m slugging it down for the whole wide world to see.
You now have no excuse. Â This is how to get those critical nutrients A, D, and K2 every single day – quickly and painlessly. Â You won’t get enough any other way more unless you eat pretty close to perfect and eat liver 2-3 times a week (who does?) so get a grip and start taking it already! Â Ok?
If you have a child too young to take cod liver oil by spoon, you can always try the bottoms-up approach. This works very well for diapered children.

How to Swallow Cod Liver Oil without Gagging
In the video below, I demonstrate exactly how to get cod liver oil down without gagging. This is the easy process I’ve used for years in our home and it works great for toddlers and adults alike.
Ideally, cod liver oil should be taken with butter oil for maximum benefit. You can get butter oil and cod liver oil from the best manufacturers here.
Once you have established this healthful daily habit, you will be shocked to notice colds and flus slowly disappear from your household. In fact, my oldest is almost 18 years old and no antibiotics have been used during his entire childhood or that of his two younger siblings. Yes, it is possible to raise children with zero antibiotics. Â I’ve done it three times and learning to swallow cod liver oil so it isn’t a big drama every single day is a big reason why.

I have to limit the amount my kids take or I would be broke. We use the Cinnamon Tingle Gel FCLO Blend. My three year ate 1.5 tsp the other day. No problems swallowing here, lol.

Would the CLO and Butter be enough of a prenatal vitamin for a pregnant woman? Would you need to take any other supplements i.e. folic acid? I’m guessing the “normal” prenatal vitamins out of a bottle are worthless….

Does anyone else fine butter oil to be grainy? It’s ok, just want to be sure mine was tasting like it’s supposed to…
Suzanne
Hi Becky Lee,
Mine is grainy, too. If you warm it, it goes back to its clear oil stage. I’m not a fan of the grainy texture, but its still better than the CLO…….lol.

PICKLE JUICE!! I asked michael at GP why this worked best and he said it was the acidity of the pickle juice that takes the taste away. First I take my HVBO on let ti disolve on my tongue, Then I take a sip of my pickle juice before I take the FCLO (to change the ph of my mouth ) and wash it down with the rest. Then I have my morning shake (kefir and raw egg yolks) with my Organ Delight. I was told that its good to take everything together cause the CLO helps you digest the other? Do you know if this is correct and elaborate on that for me? Also, have you ever done a post about supplementing with Organ Delight (dr. Rons).

i agree with you that cod liver oil is essential for health but being the strict vegetarian i am unable to accept so kindly advice for another substitute .

How many capsules of the fermented clo would equal the 1 teaspoon recommendation of daily dosing? Does anyone know?
Mikki
That was going to be my question too Teresa. Looks like Sarah has so many comments I bet she’s taking a break from answering for a while! I’m taking one in the morning, one in the evening but I do eat a lot of salmon and eat a lot of butter too. I saw up in one of the earlier posts, somebody taking 4 capsules, so I understand why the liquid is cheaper, but it was a stretch just to get my husband and young adult son to take a capsule called, FCLO, so not sure they’d do the liquid just yet. Hopefully Sarah will let us know how many to take soon.

I like blending mine into green powder drink with coconut milk. No aftertaste and it feels right.

My experiences:
*take the plastic thingy out of the jar’s opening first thing so it pours easily – shake before every use and then get out spoon(s)
*Keep both butter and clo at room temp so that it doesn’t stick to my throat so much
*take the butter first, (under the tongue optional) and then ‘swoosh’ it so that my mouth and teeth make contact – and it tastes a little better for some reason AND somewhat coats the mouth and throat to ready it for the fermented oil
*Then put the spoonful of fish liver oil directly UNDER the TONGUE (where there aren’t any any taste buds!) AND so that my body knows it is coming! (hits bloodstream, body recognizes it’s goodness and gets digestion ready 🙂 )
*drink water somewhat slowly WHILE I “SIPHON” THE OIL OUT from under my tongue – it is diluted however much I wish and is hardly ever distinguishable.
This also prevents it from every accidentally hitting that ever so sensitive top part of the back of my throat – oh the pain!)
*Now my little boys enjoy taking it again (they had hit a whiny stage)
Below are Theories and hearsay that is probably true: 🙂
*Burping seems to go away once the body learns how to digest it – I found that fresh citrus or other fresh fruit/tomato or juice seems to help cover the taste or prevent the burping completely.
*If there is any diarrhea or fishy smell out the “other end” then weak gal bladder is suspect. Some people adjust and catch up – others need to look into bile supplements or bitters or both and should always take/eat their oils at a regular time/schedule each day.
*Coconut oil bypasses the gal bladder (does not need to be digested by it) and is absorbed into the body to be used everywhere – It speaks the “emergency language” of the cells. It is a good 1st step to start healing the body (including the gal bladder, gut and thyroid) before starting anything dramatic or suddenly substantial.
*I’ve tested a few of the other recommended and popular brands and they are pathetic in comparison and truly not worth the time, effort, or money. I bought one (molecularly distilled = duh what a waste) and took a large spoonful every single day and after 2 weeks could still not tell that I’d even taken it. I didn’t even bother to finish the bottle and went back to the [no longer considered ‘expensive’] fermented – with which I can take ONE dose and tell the difference in my body/brain (minimum once a week for brain clarity and minimum relief of symptoms – more often is better though).
*The skate liver oil fatty acid profile (appears) to be more similar to butter than the cod does = so my recommendation to people trying to decide on just one to try – would be to do the skate. However, me and my boys really test better on the cod 2/3 and butter 1/3 ratio.
*Skate is higher in the glucosamine category of supplements, but the cod also has it’s share and never discount the value of the raw butter oil for joints (and other cells that like lubrication including the brain) which has the “wultzer” factor.

Wonderful information, thank you!
Irena
So at my visit to BMOrganics.com in Florida over the Holidays they showed me a phenomenal way to take the butter oil and fermented (cod liver/skate) oil without as much pain as the spoon.
They take a 5ml medicine syringe, insert it into the fermented oil, turn it upside down, and fill it up to 3mm. Then they insert it into the butter oil and fill it the rest of the way to 5ml. This way you can can just inject it into the back of your throat and bypass your taste buds. I’m not as good at “shooting” the oils but with practice (2x a day since I’m pregnant) I’m getting better. 🙂
Hope this helps those looking for an alternative to the spoon delivery method. 🙂

Hi Irena
This is how my toddler and I take it too 🙂
Makes total sense. We’ve never had any problems with gagging or burping. My toddler (2 years today :)) takes the unflavoured FCLO this way and I take the cinnamon tingle. Now that he’s two I might let him start taking the cinnamon tingle once he finishes this bottle – however he seems perfectly happy with it.
I might consider taking it the way Sarah does myself, however I’ll leave the little guy with the syringe as he’s taking it so well.

way to take one for the team! thanks for the tips and encouragement! My kids do much better at this than I do…I’m the one that needs to be reminded to take it!
