In this nuts and bolts video, I show you exactly how I swallow cod liver oil and high vitamin butter oil every day! Â My kids take it the very same way.
That’s right. Â I’m slugging it down for the whole wide world to see.
You now have no excuse. Â This is how to get those critical nutrients A, D, and K2 every single day – quickly and painlessly. Â You won’t get enough any other way more unless you eat pretty close to perfect and eat liver 2-3 times a week (who does?) so get a grip and start taking it already! Â Ok?
If you have a child too young to take cod liver oil by spoon, you can always try the bottoms-up approach. This works very well for diapered children.

How to Swallow Cod Liver Oil without Gagging
In the video below, I demonstrate exactly how to get cod liver oil down without gagging. This is the easy process I’ve used for years in our home and it works great for toddlers and adults alike.
Ideally, cod liver oil should be taken with butter oil for maximum benefit. You can get butter oil and cod liver oil from the best manufacturers here.
Once you have established this healthful daily habit, you will be shocked to notice colds and flus slowly disappear from your household. In fact, my oldest is almost 18 years old and no antibiotics have been used during his entire childhood or that of his two younger siblings. Yes, it is possible to raise children with zero antibiotics. Â I’ve done it three times and learning to swallow cod liver oil so it isn’t a big drama every single day is a big reason why.

Sarah, I take the FCLO/ Butter oil blend from green pastures. How much should I be taking a day?
HHE fan
I don’t mind the unflavored liquid fermented CLO from green pastures, but I can’t stand the liquid x factor butter oil!! Would raw grassed butter be a good substitute for this disgusting butter oil? I end up taking the butter oil like a pill. Thanks.
Kathryn
Here is a sure way to NEVER taste the Green Pasture FCLO/Butter Oil. Hold your nose, take the gel (that is what I use) and swallow with some liquid. Take a chocolate covered espresso bean and chew it up being sure to get it all over your mouth. Let go of your nose.
You are welcome!

Read your article on healing your son cavity and I noticed that you only gave him fermented cod liver oil and butter capsules. We have an 8 year old and a 12 year old. Should they take fermented skate oil? or just the fermented cod liver oil and the butter capsules like your son.

Hi Sarah,
What is the best way to store it? We received our order yesterday and I placed it in the Fridge.

This may sound silly, but it works—–
I take the butter oil first, then I pinch my nose (pinch TIGHT) with one hand and take the CLO with the other….while still pinching my nose, drink, drink, drink a cup of water ( I don’t let go of my nose yet!). Then I exhale through my mouth ONLY……..so far I do not taste anything.
When I inhale, I am careful to do so through my mouth. When I finally let go of my nose the majority of the taste is gone- I still taste it, but hardly anything. Thankfully I don’t have the burping issue.
I have found that grape juice or apple cider cuts the taste pretty well, too.

I was having such a hard time taking the FCLO, gagging the second it touched my throat, even after using your technique, that I researched filling my own capsules. You can in fact use regular gel caps to hold oil, the only issue is that you can’t make up a bunch ahead of time as it will desolve the caps in an hour. But for anyone desperate enough, it DOES work. I bought gel caps size 000, 1000 quantity for about $30 on Amazon (I didn’t shop around too much), and the syringe that comes with the FCLO works perfectly for filling the caps, 4 caps for a teaspoon. More work, a bit of a pain to do, but it’s better than not getting it at all. Then I eat a couple tablespoons of butter ghee and coconut oil with my soaked oat porridge. Easiest way for people with issues consuming oils straight up.

Hi Sarah,
I’m just starting off with cod liver oil and was wondering what dosage I should be giving to my 5 month old and 8 year old??? Since it was my first time experimenting with cod liver oil, I chose to buy a cheaper product: Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil (liquid) this time. It says 1 teaspoon on the back, but is that the correct dosage for adults? Thanks!
Melissa
Hi Sarah,
I just watched your informative video. You mentioned that the oils have several kinds of vitamin D which interests me because I’ve recently been diagnosed with sarcoidosis. The information I’ve found so far indicates that vitamin D and sarcoidosis are not good together, to put it simply. Vitamin D may do something to agrivate the disease, I’m not sure exactly. I know it’s a longshot but do you know anything about this relationship?
I haven’t been taking the oils for a couple years because of the cost and being unemployeed. But I’m foreseeing having more funds soon and would like start taking the oils because I understand the benefits. However, now that I have been diagnosed with sarcoidosis I want to make sure I’m informed.
Thank you for any information.

Has anyone tried making the gel form by themselves. I have a 3 yr old who has been taking cod liver oil with the butter oil off the spoon since she was a baby. After the age of 2 I needed to put 1 drop of honey on the spoon with it so she would take it. Since last week she has refused to take it altogether! I’ve tried educating her, bribing her and nothing works to get her to take it. I’m hoping she would take the gel but in the UK I’ve only found cocoa flavour gel and she’s not keen on chocolate. Also it works out more expensive in the gel form I think. i wonder if anyone else has tried making a gel version themselves? I’m thinking to combine the 2 with some honey, and maybe honey or peppermint extract? That’s all I have on hand.
